Default F20C S2K AE86 Corolla Build!!! Running and done 12/12/09

Well the build has started on my buddies AE86 hatch corolla. Im building the motor.

Motor specs are as follows:

F20C1 AP1 S2k engine
Sleeved and bored by Golden Eagle to 87.5mm
Custom CP 87.5 12.5:1 pistons.
Fresh low milage F20C1 head decked and new valves and brass guides.
Brian Crower Stage 2 Cams 13.0mm Lift on the Intake 12.6mm Lift on exhaust. 310 duration intake, 302 duration exhaust.
Custom Golden Eagle headgasket.
ACL race bearings

Here is a pic of the assembled bottom end. More pics to come. The car is currently getting painted Speedway Blue Ill have pics of that here soon and when the motor and 6 speed AP1 trans goes in. Car will be ran on hondata ecu pump gas.

some more pics, got the head and bc cams in and timed. Compression on this motor is rediculous. haha

Enjoy and ill update as it goes.

Seen a few of these, if you do it right the first time you'll have one hell of a ride.

more pics of the car to come soon, paint is almost finished.

Ill keep it updated. Yeah i dont do things not right, haha

Cant go wrong with this basic build. Sleeved block, CP pistons, ACL bearings, bc stage 2's. Running on Hondata. Full 3" exhaust no cat. I think this thing will pull pretty dang good.

Only thing i hear is the gearing because of the Final drive in the rear diff is shorter than the s2k not to mention the tire size of the corolla is a bit smaller diameter. So i hear the gearing is insanely short, haha But it should make it very good for drifting and not bad for even drag use.

the final drive is a 4.3 stock which is the same, i think, as an s2k. so the only difference is the wheel/tire diameter. but yes, the gears are pretty close when done, usually the speedo reads about 75 when going 65.

any idea on hp this should make? cant decide whether to keep my street car na or put the turbo setup from my racecar on it...

yeah thats good to know.

Well we were shooting for a 250whp goal but everyone is saying that we will destroy that goal with just a base map in the hondata.

So i think realistically we should be closer to 270whp after tuning is complete. Which is plenty for what he needs and wants. haha

here are some pics of the car after the paint, dont mind the overspray dust in the bay or any of that, Its painted gloss black with actual good paint, haha. Came out nice before the blue was sprayed but its just dust and comes right off. It hasnt been cleaned up and buffed for the final finish. Fenders havent been put on either. Bumpers and sideskirts are still being painted.

Ill get more pics as progress goes on. Tommorrow, test fitting of the drivetrain to make necessary modifications to the subframe and tunnel.

well test fitted the motor for the first and last time hopefully. We already had a good idea of the areas we needed to modify on the tunnel, the crossmember, and the tran to make the fitment right the first time. We missed a couple little spots upon test fitting but we have taken care of them and the next time the motor goes in should be the last haha.

Here are the pics of the fitment and modifications made.

the crossmember will have a plate welded in to strengthen it up and it will be painted black.

here is a pic of the subframe spacers provided with the motor mount kit.

Next big things will be to get the new clutch, do all the wiring which for all the body harness and engine harness will be pretty much tucked and the body harness will be made by me all custom to get rid of everything in the car that is not used any longer. So basic brake, running lights turn signals, headlights and thats about it. haha.

Once the clutch is purchased we can fit the motor in for the last time with the wiring and all attached and ready to be wired up.

no, its a TRD lsd diff. And yes for now the stock rear end such as axles is going to be used. If it breaks he will upgrade later.

it all depends on just how far you want to go with it.

All the other stuff ie mount kit was $650, Custom driveshaft would be $300, fuel setup depending on what model you have you could use the stock gts fuel system with aftermarket Walbro pump and be fine but we used the fuel setup for his other corolla when we did the gts swap in it. So now he is doing a full fuel sell, Aeromotive pump, and ss lines. There is other stuff i mean if you know how to do wiring yourself that is pretty much free. My buddy is going with the S2k cluster and cluster harness which is about $260.

So there are alot of variables but it all depends on what you want with it. You also need a custom radiator so another $300 or so. Electric fans and so on.

Hacked? How so. The only thing requiring cutting was the crossmember which is going to be reinforced and made stronger than what it was to begin with. The other is the shifter opening. Which was cut very clean and with a panel over it, you wont even be able to tell.

And about the axles. haha we were already warned of how weak the stock axles are. So we will see. Im thinking it will blow the tires off though before it actually snaps them. But who knows. If it does he is just going to upgrade to the toyota truck rearend and that should hold up just fine. There are several different options with that and all require modification to make work but nothing major. Just a couple custom brackets. Easy enough.

Thanks for all the kind words. He finally got his other corolla sold so now comes all the rest of the parts needed. There should be a lot of updating here within the next two weeks as it gets done.

Got the motor in for the final time today, which was only the second time. Subframe is done from being braced and rewelded. Came out very very nice and solid. Wired up the entire cars body harness and gauge panel and installed the s2k cluster and got the wiring for that done and hooked up and tested all my circuits. All is good. I have no doubt the engine will fire first try after priming the oil system. Motor fits absolutely perfect. No clearance issues at all. Radiator for an 06 civic is in and fits good but clearance for the hoses is gonna be tight. We could have probably went with something else but this worked out well.

Brand new ACT extreme pp with 6 puck sprung disk and on a brand new Fidanza flywheel.

My batteries died on the camera but i will take more pics later and post them up. The car is going tommorrow to a custom driveline shop to have the s2k trans end welded onto the corolla 2 piece driveshaft.
