Because these cars are so light weight, and crumble so easily which are two things that don't come into mind logically when thinking of steel. Thanks for the info though.
Crumble easily? Remember, you are talking about thinly stamped steel that folds predictably in a collision with ANOTHER VEHICLE. It's not that they crumble easily, it's just that they are smaller and lighter weight than the vehicle hitting them at speed.
