Default Stock b16 + E85 - need opinions

i am about to rebuild my b16a2 in my SI and was thinking about maybe running E85, i dont really car about performance that much, just more as its cleaner and better for then engine, as well as cheaper

i have a set of RC310cc to make up for the gas

i live right next door to a gas station that sells E85..

anyone give me a few pro/cons of running E85 on a stock engine...

mods are just going to be I/H/E

We have one racer who runs E85 Screen Name Juan Tushag aka Renan
Check with him, he seems happy using the fuel.

HI!!

Yes thats me, I have been running e85 in the race car for the last half of the season.

It is a very stock type motor. B16 with type R cams , intake and exhaust. It makes 168HP to the wheels

We have had really positive results with E85. I really enjoy the thought of using a fuel that does not come from abroad, as well as all the other positives from using an alternatative fuel.

We have had the entire engine apart and there are no ill effects what so ever. This engine has been run extremely hard and at high RPM. The only problem we have had is the engine running too cold ( I have a large fluidyne radiator that i had to run before using E-85 ) .

To run E85 ensure you have a fuel pump in good/new condition and I would not use injectors smaller than 440s. Using the 440s we were approaching 95% duty cycle.

Other than that I would replace the fuel filter before switching ,,, a good tune and your on your way.

E 85 seems to be more consistant than regular fuel too. Hot days , cold days, elevation changes,,, it just seems to run the same. I have been very impressed with the stuff .

Ok,, lets see pros,,, Runs much cooler, almost impossible to detonate on a relatively stock engine ( it has 105+ octane), engine parts look much cleaner when dissasembled, Im not using a fuel that has to be gaurded with destroyers sitting off coast, about a 2-3% increase in HP when tuned properly, Its biodegradeable. It costs less than gas and MUCH less than race gas but gives the same performance

Cons. had to buy bigger injectors, there are not many e85 stations near me, uses around 20% more fuel, more frequent oil changes may be necessary (There is still a lot of back and forth on that one)

Next we are looking at running a catalytic converter on the Honda challenge car. We are going to promote a "green" race car . I have never been a tree hugger , but it is kind of exciting
