Default Valves

I have a H22 and I dont know what valves to go with. I was going to go with Ferrea valves but i was told by a machinist "they dont make them like they used, everything is cheaper quality to" so I dont know now.

1. What is your opinion on Skunk2 valves and Ferrea valves and Supertech valves?

2. What is the advantages/disadvantages of stainless steel valves?

3. What is the advantages/disadvantages of Nitride coated valves?

4. Are there any other valves that you recommend?

I did search and all i found is peoples build threads. I am not going to decide on what valvetrain to used based on how many people have it.

Nitride coatings help evenly distribute/dissipate/reflect heat, and have a lower surface energy compared to treated steel, so carbon deposites are less likely to form on the underside of the valve dish.

Stainless steel (coated and non-coated) is your only choice unless you go Titanium ($) or Inconel ($$$), both are unnecesary for naturally aspirated builds.

Supertech makes nice units, I have been running B-series Supertech nitride coated valves since '04 in my 2.0L.

I have no personal experience with Skunk2 valves or Ferrea valves, but I have dealt with Skunk2 customer service a few times and highly regard their loyalty and support of their products.

You are unlikely to find a failure in a valve unless there are clearance issues, either valve-to-valve, or piston-to-valve, or you have a failure in your spring/retainer/keeper - so your decision shouldn't be a stressed one. Pick a brand that you have a good faith in, or whatever is more affordable.

Your looking for peoples opinions but you won't go buy what that majority of people are using in there builds. Makes sense. I guess that most people wouldn't suggest the parts that they are using then.

If you don't want to go with what the majority of people are using. Why not ask your machinist buddy what he would run.
