Default Question for Mista Bone or Aquafina

I am putting together a 90-91 A1 Cable tranny, All of my mainshaft clearances between the gears check out within spec, as do my diff shim specs...

I am using all A1 parts (Mainshaft, Counter Shaft, A1 Gear Set (Proper Gearset, Counted Teeth on gears and did math to determine correct gear ratios to confirm gear set), Diff, correct FD Ring Gear and corresponding CS, All new bearings, All new Synchros, All new seals).

I have tryed numerous shims on the mainshaft, but I can only aquire a .002 clearance no matter what shim I use, My question would be is it safe to use this clearance and go ahead with reassembly?

I have checked the mainshaft clearance with a dial indicator bolted down to the bellhousing and I've spun the mainshaft by hand slowly about 200+ times now with numerous shim sizes and I can only aquire a .002 clearance no matter what shim I use, I have tryed with the diff in the case with just the mainshaft, and just the mainshaft in the case alone, either the dial indicator was off, or I gained a .001 clearance with the diff in the case with the mainshaft vs the mainshaft in the case without the diff....

No.

Are you using the mainshaft base and holder with everything but the gears on the shaft?

Integra service manual calls for I believe .004 - .007 on the mainshaft.

I am using an 90-91 LS case, and my spec is at .002

I am curious to why I am out of spec using all A1 parts, and how I can achieve spec, with what I have, I have numerous shims of various thicknesses, I am doing something wrong.

I am going to assemble the case without sealing it with honda bond and recheck clearance in a little bit.

You can't check the clearance accurately without the tool.

I aim for .008-.010" case gap with just the mainshaft and washers properly installed.

My math, the spring washer is .030" thick material, but .046" tall, meaning it has .016" to crush.

.016" - .010" case gap = .006" left as would be measured with correct tools that Aquafina uses.

I've found that case gap isn't accurate. Gets in the ballpark, but I set the clearance versus going for a tolerance.

Going to swap in another new set of diff bearings, a minor setback due to human error last round, recheck diff clearances again, and then recheck mainshaft...

To be continued....

You do ALOT more business that I do. If I was doing as much as you I would have bought the correct tools as well.

You can make your own MS tool...I use factory tool, but a homemade one wouldn't be too tough to make.
