2001 civic replacing engine
hello there, I was wondering if anyone knows if you can remove the engine without the transmission on a 2001 civic lx nonvtec. I bought my civic for $800 because it needs a new engine. I went to my local autozone to buy the manual but on the manual all it talk is how to pull off the engine with the transmission. thank you
why would you not pull it all togeather? makes it a lot easier bro.....I just did it a couple weeks ago....very easy to get out with tranny still attached
huh? so you think it would be easier if I take both off? I just wanted not to do the extra work taking off something that was not broken
225k MILES!?!?!? Man I bought this car from my x-wife's grandma and is the second engine this car blew. I am hoping I get a better luck with it
. I just got a engine for it with 32k miles for $600 and I just finish taking off the altenator, a/c pump and steering pump.

LOL.....Assually she was very good on taking it to the dealer for oil changes every 3k miles or so.... when I got it, I took it to the dealer so see if the new engine they put on had warranty. The dealer told her that they put a new engine on it ;however, they put a used one with a lot of miles on it....
and of course warranty left.
here are some pics of my progress with this car

Its a hell of a lot easier to pull it whole. It comes out fairly easily as an assembly, and its much easier to get the engine and tranny together outside of the car. If the dealer threw a used engine in it, then there's no telling what the history of that motor was. I'd suggest pulling the oil pan off the new one, and maybe even pulling the crankshaft cradle out to check all the bearings for damage before putting it in the car... just to make sure you dont blow another one... but hey, 3rd one's the charm right?
ok
a update on my project.
thank you for all you advice but I have learnd the hard way.....YES!!!! IT IS EASIER IF YOU PULL THE ENGINE WITH THE TRANSMISSION TOGETHER....for all you people that were or are wondering like me
