What is this?
car will be running fine, then a CEL will pop on and the car will instantly start idling at 1500
when i press the gas lightly, engine rocks and pulsates,
pressing harder, will pulsate faster
then at about 1/3rd throttle it will 'pop' out and rev normally
but if i try to ease back on the throttle it will suddenly shake.

I had this problem on my D16Y8, in the Si with a JDM B16A I had for a while, and now in this B16A2.
the car an go for hours and days just fine, or sometimes this pops on in only a few minuets.
I've already cleaned out the IAC once, so i don't believe it is it. (though this does seam that its IAC related though)
ideas?

I'm heading to pep-boys now to check it.
I just find it interesting how this problem has followed me, reguardless of engine, ECU, or tranny.
Perhaps more people have had it.

Hmm aperantly it's aginst the law to loan auto tools in California now.
Autozone &bpepboys won't do it.

Well, it truly sounds like an intermittent map or tps issue. The answer is extracting the code though...plain and simple. The ecu is angry, find out why.
Is your car converted to OBD1 or is it running on an OBD2 ecu? Two different methods to checking the code is why I ask.
What motor do you have currently and what ecu are you running?
If you've had multiple cars with problems it sounds like the owner, not the cars...no offense. I see this all the time...for years, so I know the reality.
Get the code checked...pep boys or advance with come out and check it free of charge. They won't loan you a scan tool necessarily, but they'll come out and do it for you in the parking lot. If your not driving it due to the issues, then you better start reading. To beat a dead horse though, get the code...it's the easy way out of this period.

Well the OBD2 scanner said it was an Idle Air Controller problem. The shop I went to did a search and in the last month or so there have been 8 cases of these valves dieing.
While Im sure i could find a replacement for cheep... this is the kinda part that you'd want new, because it looks like they die with age.
Cheapest I've seen online is a cool $170.30 for it. I guess il try cleaning it out again and seeing if time fixes it.
