PLEASE HELP! After driving my car for 50+ miles, it stalls & won't accelerate past 20 MPH. It will kick in after a few seconds of stalling, but then doesn't accelerate again (I press on the gas and it does nothing!), the engine is still running. My transmission was replaced a few months ago, my car had been sitting for a few months before then. My mechanic claims he cannot find the problem and has checked all systems.

 

Does he have the capacity and the equipment to scan the PCM?
I'm not talking about the "count the flashes with your toes" method, but a hand-held scanner capable of retrieving the event history and displaying system / component voltages.

If he doesn't, find someone who can.

i had a similar problem and the mechanic said the catalytic was clogged. i replaced that and the o2 sensor and the car running great now

 

my car does that but not as extreme, it can be blamed on my egr valve and o2 censors (they both need to be replaced) dont know if this helps really thought
