Default Erratic speedometer and apparent road trip

First, the facts.

I have a '93 Prelude with Vtec, and a broken speedometer. It will work properly for the first 30 miles or so, and as it is begining to spaz out, the computers try to compensate or something and there is a faint jerking in the car until the speedometer stays at zero, and a check engine light comes on. I haven't done any swaps that would effect anything, it's stock, just has a broken speedometer.

Finally, the question I have is that if I were to take my Prelude on a road trip (driving several hundred miles at a time on a broken speedometer that causes the computers to get all confused and faintly jerk the car) will I just be causing further damage to other parts in my car, or will It be an ok thing to do and not really effect anything else?

In other words, should I leave the Prelude at home and take the Wrangler? lol

Sorry for my inexperience, hope somebody takes the time to reply.

Most likely you VSS is dying. Replace it and your problem should be fixed.
I would use the other vehicle if you dont have time to fix the Prelude before the trip.
