For anyone towing to Las Vegas be advised that the Nevada DOT has changed the permit requirements.

To confirm this go to the Nevada DOT web site.

Any truck/motor home / trailer combination weighing more than 10,001 pounds must purchase a travel permit IN ADVANCE of entering the State of Nevada. The old 25,001 weight limit NO LONGER APPLIES.

In July of 2009 AB 372 passed changing the permit requirements. The new Law is in effect right NOW!

The cost of a permit from the California / Nevada border to the Las Vegas Race Track is about $39.00 (one way and only good for one day). The return permit is ANOTHER $39.00. These permits MUST be obtained in advance, you can not get them once you have entered the State. You must contact the Nevada DOT to pay for these permits.

The violation Fines are:

1st Offense - $500
2nd Offense - $1000
3rd Offense - $1500

Permits are required for any trailer combination that weights more than 10,001 pounds and is hauling a vehicle that has the "Potential" to earn income, whether you actually win money or not. Classic car transporters are exempt, furnature hauling is exempt, horse trailers are exempt but NOT Race Cars.

this is bs how can you charge for horse trailer they are going to make money either way. if its selling the horse or breading or going to the track they are there for that reason only

 

Most people towing with an open trailor will be fine.

 

Who uses those anymore good thing there isnt any races out there now.

Most open trailers don't weigh that much with a car^^

I am in luck I tow with my Ridgeline and open trailer. I just calculated my weight with 4 people and tools and stuff and I am at just below 9,000 lbs. If I was towing with like a full size Chevy Avalanche or something like that I would be over for sure.

but hell a dodge 1500 like i drive is 5400, add the 2500lbs car and trailers, thats easily 9500 lbs maybe, than passengers and TOOLS lol.

Well that sounds like some bull **** to me, my truck weighs 10k, not including car and trailer. funny thing is how the hell are they going to know what is in the trailer.

 

Just use an enclosed trailer and decal it up as a moving company, or antique company, or even better, just put some church insignia on there... What cop is gonna mess with someone pulling a trailer like "Pastor Bob's House of God Youth Ministry Marching Band" or something like that....

 

wow i guess i just got lucky came in and out of vegas this weekend for sema and no problem! 60 ft and im sure around 20k!

 

this only affects commercial vehicles guys. So long as there are no logos on your tow rigs you'll be fine, and will not have to buy a permit.

 

see that makes sense to me.

 

The weight they are talking about is not actually what it weighs, but the combined total gvwr of the trailer and tow rig.
