My sons 2005 honda accord 4 cl has a leak at the steering rack & the resivour bottle.

The boots are dripping fluid. I found steering rack for around 200.00, dealer wanted 1600.00 to change.

I am a pretty good shadetree mechanic, but I do not want to have to drop the front differental.

Anyone done this?

 

I haven't done this; but, when I look at the factory service manual for the 2005 Accord V6, it is a pretty involved. For example, the steering wheel will need to be removed before disconnecting the steering joint, otherwise damage to the cable reel can occur. You will need some kind of engine support to lift and hold up the engine, and also something to support the suspension subframe, while you remove the steering rack.
