New user, i have a 2004 mazda rx8. On monday i might possibly be able to trade for a 2000 S2000 it has around 76k mileage nothing wrong with it whatsoever is owned by someone who has 5 cars old guy think it's worth it?

Do i have any engine problems to worry about in the near future? is that a lot of miles for an s2k?

 

one guy with 125K is making 800 horse on Q16. Some people are pushing 240K.

 

it all depends on the car. They are different for each owner. Just by what I read here, the two cars are about the same in power and handle but you are trading for 4 year older a car. So if you really want an S then yes, if you are iffy, then no.

 

In a straight line race the RX8 doesnt come close to the S2000...

 

make sure car has no problems specially engine, tranny, frame, and body if all of that is fine then go for it. remember 76k for 2000 is kinda low it might be a good or bad thing so all im saying just make sure the car has no major problems u'll never regret owning an s2k. and comparing it to ur rx8 believe me u'll like the s2k alot more

the 2000-2001 years do have some flaws some people may not like. you should stick with 2002 or newer.

 

Is it going to be your daily driver? I've had a RX-8 brefore, have a S2k now. I didn't think that the 2-seater aspect was going to be a drawback, but there has been some times where it has been a hinder, such as going to lunch with co-workers. Gas milage is about 4-6 mpg better on the S2k for me. Luggage space was a lot better in the RX-8. I could easily pack two sets of snowboarding gear in the RX-8.

Both are fun cars, but just consider your needs.

 

i wouldnt do it unless it was a 02 or newer.it has low miles though so thats a plus.

I don't think I would do it unless you WANTED a 'vert. Personally, I think the rx-8 is a better car the s2k

my buddy use to own a 2000 ap1 and my buddy had a rx-8 s2k just beat him in every possible way track, straight line and etc. And the rx-8 had boly on's too.

 

Not to hijack threads, but as a prospective s2k buyer my self, what should I watch out for with pre 2002 models?

lol I kept up with an RX-8 in a straight line in a way-underpowered prelude before. Not a great race but an S2k would have shat on that prelude I was driving.

trade it or sell your RX-8 and buy something more fun. some times you find people coming from civics who think the RX-8 has gobs of torque hahahaha

 

I think the RX-8 is probably worth more, so I would NOT do an even trade.

 

+1 I like the S way better than I would an RX-8 but I think you can come up on the transfer about 1 or 2 grand. Any conditions could change these but yeah.. Should definitely get the S tho.

 

Hole story went and checked it out today my car says it has 121k on it but it's a rebuilt engine so it has less than half of that on it. three dings and runs perfect. 2004 mazda rx8 the s2000 has 76k on it but it's friggen flawless except for the headlights have a little glaze over them other than that it is showroom quality but thing is he want me to trade my rx8 and my bike....03 cbr 600rr

I would trade a rx8 for a s any day. Not worth your car and your bike though IMO.

 

Wow didn't know you rx8 had that many issues. so I would say straight trade.

 

rx8 for s2k straight trade. don't throw your bike into the equation.

 

RX-8's are lame so..

Get the Honda.

Keep your bike.
