This problem has gotten progressively worse over the past couple weeks. When we try and take the car out of park we have to pump the brakes for like 5 mins to finally get the brake sensor to engage to get the car out of park and into whatever gear. What could this problem be associated with? I am assuming there is a sensor that is push when you hit the brakes to get the car in gear. Is this the issue or is there an underlying issue that could be worse? Secondly, do you think it will be covered by warranty? We are going to take it to the dealer ASAP but our dealers service isnt open on the weekends.

it must be the brake sensor then.

it is fixed now. It ended up being a recalled part for this year civic. So, if anyone else has this problem it is covered.
