Transmission and axles
My 91 hatchback std is shifting hard, even when the engine is off so I'm thinking its the clutch. The linkage doesn't appear to be bad. Although I am using a bolt instead of a roll pin for the linkage, but have been doing that for a couple of years now w/out any problems.
Anyway, I have a 5spd transmission of the same year with almost new clutch components that I'm going to replace my 4spd with. I believe everything will match up as long as I am using the same axles?
Question: Do I really need to remove the axle from the hub?
I'm thinking all I really need to do is to disconnect the lower ball joint and pop the axle out of the transmission and move it out of the way.

Thats what I thought.
Though now that I have done some searching on this forum, I'm dreading doing this as it seems to be a pain to get the transmission back on again by oneself.
