WIRE FIRE!!!!!! good trade or bad?
SHE RAN TONIGHT!!! 11-8-09 i shut it down as soon as it cranked, i want to add some fresh gas and some FI cleaner, new plugs, wires, etc. ran smooth enough tho, H22ooooooo
i had a little crappy 1990 HF crx 5speed with about 180k on it, great on gas mileage.... that was about it. some guy said he had a 94 si prelude with an h22 swap in it, the car had a small under dash harness fire. i checked it out, damage wasnt bad and i swapped.
damage: burnt "under dash harness" from the airbag control under the radio console all the way to the throttle cable. i think the throttle cable rubbed through the harness and caused a short/electrical fire. the guy did a great job of not letting it spread, he had no water, had to get some from a person on the road
....gets better
now that ive taken the dash out to repair it, i find that part of the a/c - heater box is burnt, with a hole in the duct work!!!!

i would just swap the harness and gut the AC, but then again i live in california.
i say good trade because EF's are worthless no matter how clean

^ That. Not only that, you can find a replacement harness in a junkyard for next to nothing. Or you can just splice new wire in which is really easy. Just a pain, especially since i am sure you will have multiple wires that are the same colour.
Actually all Honda OEM wires are different colors and different gauge thickness. Splicing them is easy in thought, but when you get down to the soldiering, its a whole new business.
I have an OEM wireharness hanging over my closet door. There are very few matching wires. Headach to repair.

im going to solder it, cut out the bad section and go to town, i dont think more than half the harness is burnt, ill just have to see tomorrow. the AC is the only thing im worried about, im not sure if the part that melted comes apart, or how hard its gonna be to swap it
Dude don't do that. You're asking for trouble there. There are SO many wires, and if you make 2 solders per wire, thats double the amount of wires equals your amount of potential problems.
Seriously go to the junkyard or find a partout and just replace them. It will be worth it in the short and long run.

there is no way im going to fight with another interior....at a junkyard of all places, to try and pull THIS harness out...it connects to too many places, the ENTIRE interior has to be removed. im good with a soldering iron, ill take my chances.
take your time and be patient.
Make sure to use a good heat shrink I used crappy heatshrink and my soldered joints rubbed thru the heatshrink causing me so many damn headaches
I think it would still be worth checking out some junk yards, you never know you might find one with the dash already out.Or check an see if anyone on here or other forums has that harness, but look at every option
i posted a few times on here looking for one, and ive called ALL the junkyards around where i live...only 93-96 manual tranny SI harnesses will work without moddification, so im doing it this way. it will work, oh yes, it will. haha, think im going crazy
