Icon6 Dizzy problems

I am having a repetitive failure with my distribuitor, the module keeps failing every 2 years or if I run the car at high rpms continuisly (long trips with the engine above 4000rpms). Does anyone have a similar problem????? Suggestions are welcome.

thanks

Most likely it is overheating and you are buying garbage aftermarket parts. Purchase a new OEM one and you should rid yourself of the problem.

I'd agree with the junk dizzy problem. Possibly as a work around, you could go with an external coil. That would get the coil out of the distribtor which would probably make it run a little cooler (the dizzy that is).

What does the coil location have to do with the Ignition Module going bad? Most people when they run external coil they leave the IM in the same place... unless they run a box. Either way it is a waste of time and money. Honda ignition systems are good for over 500 WHP.

You don't have a coil in the distributor getting hot inside the dizzy sitting right on top of the IM. It would reduce the heat in the distributor, which heat will kill IMs.

PS- I agree with the Honda dizzys being well designed and good to 500whp, but from the sounds of it, he's not buying a decent quality dizzy. He's buying a junk autozone distributor and it's getting hot and killing it.

My dizzy is OEM, any other possible suggestions?
Here are the two last failure situations:

1. I was going ~115mph and the engine suddenly stopped. It cranked and started right away. I lowered my speed close to 80mph so the engine would not be running above 4000rpms (stock Si tranny). The car drove normally for 15miles and then it stopped suddenly again and would not turn on, at this point I had to ask for a towtruck. I had the dizzy replaced with a borrowed one from another honda and the engine started right away. Replaced the module with a new one and the car drove good.

2. I took the car to the dragstrip after 10 runs it drove good and I headed back home (200mile drive). Next day I took the car for a drive and the engine died and would not start. Left the car sit for a night and next morning it started with no problem.

Is there any chance that the ignition wires or spark plugs are causing the problem???

The engine is a completely stock D16Y8 with only I/H.

Feedback is greatly appreciated

Plugs and wires don't normally cause ignition modules to fail, I don't think that would be your problem.

The dizzy in my ride doesn´t have any problems with the shaft being loose. It just stops working with no aparent reason.
