Clutch if you do it your self + 1, maybe 6-8 hrs if your both good. other than that, CV boot is what, 1 hr 2 tops? Never did a CV boot before, but I suppose it wouldn't be that hard. Tell you what for the price of the car, if you decide to buy it, change out the water pump, timing belt, other drive belts and really clean up that engine bay. simple green and a lot of water. Dont let the simple green sit though, it corrodes the aluminum. And if your there already, change out the oil pan gasket, and the valve cover gasket. Wonder if he should do the head gasket as well? Might as well. Id pull the motor and start the process.
CV boots are EASY, much easier than a clutch. Pull the upper ball joint loose, rotate the hub and remove the axle by prying between the trans and shaft. Then disassemble the shaft , regrease, and install new boot. BUT.. so you know the boot cost around 15 bux and an hour or so to change, Advance Auto parts sells remaned shafts for 35 bux and your old core. I would save the time and hassle and replace the whole shaft.. much easier and better than changing the boot and finding out the joint is bad also, and having to change anyway. Just my thoughts. And if you want an easier/cheaper solution, they make boots with a zipper that can be changed without removing the axle at all (cost around $25) Hope this helps
