Default automatic fluid change?

my buddy was looking to get his car ready for winter and hes completely car incompetent so i offered to help. were going to be doing all the basics such as plugs, wires, filter, oil change and i offered to change his auto tranny fluid since he said nothing has been touched on the car since he bought it 3 years ago.

now ive done a manual fluid change more then 15 times in my transmissions but ive never done an auto vehichle. the car is a 98 4 door civic lx btw.

my question is that is a fluid change in an auto transmission the same as a manual transmission? and what kind of atf should i use? he said its been a little jerky so idk if theres a "better" atf then others.

thanks!

calls for Honda ATF Z-1.

If I were you, pick up some Amsoil ATF, designed for Hondas and other cars. Little more expensive but does wonders!
