Default Oil Restrictor Question, non V/T block + V/T head

I have read alot of posts that say you need to remove the oil restrictor when doin a non vtec block wit a vtec head. My question is, what happens when you don't remove it? Not finding anywhere with definite answers, jus a lot of "possibly" and "I think" answers.

My boy bolted the head on my car n apparently left it in, (this was a few months ago) the block is coming out in a few days because my A6 will be out of the machine shop tomorrow. So i will DEFINITELY be correcting this issue! I jus want to know what leaving it in causes. Its a zc block wit a y8 head, its on V-AFCII so no oil pressure switch is being used.

With it in place there will not be sufficient oil to the head.

Is it because the y8 has a restrictor in the head as well? Or will it not have sufficient flow in all cases?

I started gettin a slight rod knock which is why i'm forced to hurry up n finish my A6 block build this week. The thing is, is that I don't know if leavin the plug in caused the knock or if it was from the nitrous. That is why I'm tryin to find someone who knows EXACTLY what the plug will cause.

leaving the plug in will not cause rod knock, but it will prevent any oil from getting to the vtec solenoid and therefore vtec will not function.

^^^ absolutly correct. When i built my bottom end on my single and put a vtec head on it i forgot to do this, took it out and vtec worked.

Not calling you a liar but my vtec hits, not hard but when the light on the vafc comes on you can feel it and also hear vtec crossover. I was thinking the same thing tho, that it shouldn't engage, but it does. Feels weak tho. Maybe its only working cuz of the vafc since i'm using the it to trigger it n not the ecu.
