Default Should I go HID?

Well, I'm a student, driving in the morning and night, need good headlights. I'm pretty poor.. under $50 is my budget basically. I was wondering.. should I get HID kit or stay with halogen such as silverstar (which I have it installed in my Honda Accord and Acura Integra). Right now, the 96 Honda Civic is mainly mine. I have stock halogen lights installed on it. Anyone recommend me getting a good cheap sets of HID? Would it give out too much glare to blind people?

I'm looking towards this set right now: $40+$11 shipping http://www.ddmtuning.com/products/Ra...it-102-85.html
If I do get it, should I get 4,500k, 5,000k, or 6,000k?

First things first, without any type of projector or glare shield; you will emit glare towards oncoming traffic and you more than likely will get high beamed back. I personally have sensitive eyes at night and cannot stand the site of some fcukstick ricer driving down the highway with their blue *** HID's without any kind of projector or shield. The shield I'm speaking of is listed below ; now it isn't the BEST thing but it's better than nothing if you MUST have HID's on a 'budget'. If you end up behind me blinding me, or in front of me; you will get the finger and we'll go from there.

As for colour, I'd suggest something 'pure white' which would ofcourse be in the 4500-5k range.

For legality, YES they are illegal; will you get pulled over for it? Try it and let us know. Chances are, and common says says; if you're blinding people, you're attracting attention to yourself therefore the consequences are inevitable.

I suggest doing more research and having a set of headlights retrofitted with the projectors, do it right the first time. HID's in stock headlights is kind of 1998 in my opinion..

Hope some of this helped.

I got another question, are those "somewhat" reflectors? would those do it for the HID?

or are those too short to be a HID reflector?

Those things on the OEM headlights are just a diffuser, if you damage that it will likely ruin your beam pattern. JDM CTR headlights etc do not come with diffusers therefore most people retrofit projectors in there or deal with the beam pattern when they install HID's, the JDM CTR headlights are legal in the US.

And no, that kit does not come with any kind of shield; if so they'd state that and it would be more expensive than pocket change $50 shipped.

I think you need to do more research, I can put this two ways.

1) Buy the HID kit, blind people and get high beamed all the time. You will like it, others won't; your beam pattern will be all over the place and not centered like OEM projectors.

2) Do it the right way and retrofit your headlights, it'll be expensive but its worth it.

There is no shield there, that gadget is part of the bulb. If your Civic is a daily driver and you're not worried, then go ahead and throw a kit in and it'll look just like the below picture; there's really no way around it without doing it correctly. I use to sell HID kits and I ran a few without shields/projectors and it just scattered the light everywhere; I could pull up to a wall and it'd be over the wall and all out to the side like bat wings. And next time, read this.

OEM Headlights, HID kit thrown in:

or you can retrofit and look like this:

I know I used someone's picture from the retrofit thread, if you want it taken down just PM me.

they do make sheilds, they are called casper sheilds, but that wont help you beam patter or glare, just save your pennys are get a retro fit, or ask mom and dad for a projector set for xmas,
if you most have hids, 50 will get you noithing but a crap ebay kit.

hmm.. it is a really hard decision, I don't really want to blind people but I do want some better lightning. Fog lights are a bit too expensive. What other options are there?

Are there no street lights in your area or is there severe inclimate weather in your area?

Seriously OEM headlights/bulbs cannot be THAT horrible or by all means as horrible as you're making them seem. I mean I own an S2000 and OEM HID JDM front Integra Type-R so I'm use to driving with HID's with a perfect cutoff, but I've driven and owned plenty of halogen equipped automobiles and I am not complaining too much. Check out Phillips Extreme Power +80% bulbs, I've heard good things about them but cannot rant and rave due to not having personal experience with them. Honestly, your initial question was answered in a sticky thread; if that wasn't much of an answer for you I'm not too sure where to go from here..

Now it's a matter of either you do it, or you don't. You find a bright bulb, or you don't.
There's a right way, and a wrong way to do things.. I've done this the wrong way myself and was satisfied for that moment until I kept getting high beamed etc; which made me retrofit my CTR headlights on my old car a few years back and learned from that. To each their own though!

retro would be too expensive for me is the major problem. I get a lot of fog here where I live and not much street light on parts of the roads I drive in.

Thanks man.
It is really hard for me to decide since I have to take the money out of my pocket instead of my parent for parts for the civic. I do drive in the night a lot now so I wanted a better lightning source for better vision at night. I need to find some other choices I can have for better lightning. I know Sylvannia Silverstar won't help since I've been using it on my 98 Acura Integra and 99 Honda Accord V6.

how much are they? If it's about $30-$35, I'll pass and get the HID instead (well for the price)

Well, seems like it isn't sold in the United States at least not locally. The only thing I can find is on eBay.

We sell Putco halogen bulbs on sale for $26.99:

http://www.KBcarstuff.com/Halogen_Au...ulbs_s/271.htm

You CANNOT go wrong with these bulbs for $26.99.

I have a set installed in my fogs and have had literally ZERO problems with them. We have also sold literally hundreds of pairs with great feedback from our customers.

please dont get $40 plug n play 'hids' everyone on the road will hate you. either get some good halogens (silverstars arent bad, maybe try PIAA GT-X, Nightbreakers etc.) and/or add fog lights if you have that much fog happening. The only serious upgrade that will safely get you more light output is a hid retrofit, which includes projectors, ballasts, and a wire harness.

I got a set of the ddm tuning Hids. within about 8 hours the headlight ballast blew. They paid for shipping and sent me a new one. The 12000k wasn't even purple it was a whiteish blue. There okay but i would save and get a better kit, if not get silverstars
