you can't bar that motor in a ef chassis anymore...if you want to bar a b16 motor it has to be from a USDM vehicle...!!!

You can bar a jdm motor, just make sure all the purge solenoids are hooked up. when I got my crx bar'd they didnt even check my ecu just under the hood. I didnt even have a carb legal intake and I passed

Replacement Engines
Entire engines can be replacement parts. As with any other replacement part, the engine must be identical to the original. If the replacement block or engine is obtained without emissions equipment, all the equipment from the original engine must be installed on the replacement block. If the engine is not identical to the original then it is not a replacement part, instead it is considered an engine change.Engine changes are a modification that must meet certain requirements to be legal (please see "Engine Changes").

Japanese Replacement Engines
Used engines imported from Japan can be used as replacement engines as long as the engine being used has been identified as functionally identical to the original engine. Please refer to the engine importers catalogue to determine if a replacement engine is legal for installation in your vehicle.

Engine Changes
Engine changes are legal as long as the following requirements are met to ensure that the change does not increase pollution from the vehicle:
  • The engine must be the same year or newer than the vehicle.
  • The engine must be from the same type of vehicle (passenger car, light-duty truck, heavy-duty truck, etc.) based on gross vehicle weight.
  • If the vehicle is a California certified vehicle then the engine must also be a California certified engine.
  • All emissions control equipment must remain on the installed engine.
  • Vehicles converted to 100% electric drive, with all power supplied by on-board batteries are considered in compliance with the engine change requirements. All fuel system components must be removed prior to inspection. For additional information contact the ARB helpline at (800) 242-4450
After an engine change, vehicles must first be inspected by a state referee station. The vehicle will be inspected to ensure that all the equipment required is in place, and vehicle will be emissions tested subject to the specifications of the installed engine.

I would like to know where you got your info from that says that it is legal to bar a jdm motor because i sure in hell cant find it in writing

I didn't need it in writing, I got it bar'd and that's all that mattered to me. I took the motor out last week and put it in a DC, Im going back to the ref next month.

The sausage is correct. no more getting jdm motors bar'ed in our EF's. for those of us who have already done this before it was banned your cars should now be worht more, LOL.

OP for less of a headache just trade your motor for an LS or a usdm B16a3 and try your hardest to source a P30. good luck

you might be enjoying the bar sticker in the car today but the law is the law and it was never legal to begin with...it is just until a few months back that the state started to enforce the original laws in the book...it doesn't matter if a ref passed you then it isn't legal now and any ref who passes a jdm motor is breaking the law.

not that i really care if you passed or not but my point to be is that a jdm motor is not legal to bar but can be used as a replacement motor in a USDM automobile that offered a similar type motor in it's generation of vehicle...!!!

I took the b16 out of the crx and got it bar'd for a LS. They put the new bar sticker over the old one, but I'll take a pic when I get the b16 bar'd in my DC

i spoke with a ref here in the i.e. and he told me not to believe the internet (cause i asked him about jdm motors being legal) , he also told me in order to pass my b18c that i would need to convert my crx to obd1 at the ecu, injectors, distributor, and i would need all smog emissions hooked up he also told me that i can keep my type r header, because it came from an integra but i need to have the heat shield on it....... well if it is true about the jdm motors being illegal then i guess we'll find out cause after doing my friends ls swap i'll find out tuesday morning

The San Diego ref said as long as all the emissions are hooked up u will pass. He said that's all he has to check for. They don't smog u at ref station out here, they just give u the sticker and it's free

BAR'ed cars are supposed to be smogged as proof that it conforms to the legal emission laws for that motor.
