If I bought some 17" FN01RC's for my CD6 Accord, is a lowering absolutely necessary?

Default If I bought some 17" FN01RC's for my CD6 Accord, is a lowering absolutely necessary?

Title pretty much sums it all up. I want to get the Bronze 5Zigen FN01RC's with Falken Ziex-912's from discount tire, but I do not want to install the Tein lowering springs I have as my mechanic told me it isn't a good idea. So, does anyone think my car will look like a 4x4 if I don't lower it, or it will look just right with these wheels on? Thanks guys!

Why would your mechanic think it isn't a good idea? What I'm thinking is that your mechanic might think it'll rubb which I doubt it. If you go Tein S Tech, it shouldn't rub your front tires at all, and its not even that low. Lowering the car would totally set it off good bro. If you're nervous then go with some Tein H Tech springs which only lowers .5" or something like that and I'm pretty sure from a distance, ppl can tell that your car is drop. GL on your car.

PS, I'm on Tein S Tech springs w/ Blue Tokico Shocks. Ride quality is awesome!!! I recommend it for DD.

Yep, I've got the Tein H-Techs. I wouldn't be doing the shock upgrade, it would just be the lowering springs installed then get the alignment, no other upgrades.

Soooo, I'm just wondering how the 5Zigens will look without a drop. I mean, my car already sits pretty low. I'm just wondering exactly what it will look like.

It's not ever necessary, but it will remove some wheel gap. You probably want to consider at least replacing the shocks with new OEM or OEM equivalent ones. Your Accord probably has like 100k? + miles on it and all those years of use. Dropping the car on the stock ones may not be a great idea.

Something like Tokico Blues (think those are the ones) are OEM-equivalent shocks.

Well my car I bought used a few weeks ago, it only has just under 103,000 miles and its a 94. I have no idea if the shocks have been replaced.

If I can see 1 or some pics of a CD6 accord on 17" wheels at stock ride height, that would be awesome.

Yeah, I can almost guarantee they haven't been replaced. The normal maintenance schedule doesn't give you a mileage/year to replace them. It's kind of a "when they start to go bad" type thing a mechanic would diagnose.

You'll also want to post your tire sizing as that great dictates the amount of fender gap there is.

Well I was going to get the 17x7 and get the Falken Ziex-912's, rated 205/50R-16 87V BLK. I don't know what any of those numbers mean btw.

How do you think they will look and is my choice in tire good?

Haha it's all good:
205 - width in mm of the tire
50 - height as a % of width (so 50% of 205)
16 - wheel size
V - probably speed rating
87 - probably treadwear or something like that

I ran 205/50/15 on my ITR wheels and it was a sizable sidewall. I also ran a 205/50/16 on my Volks.

Note that your current tire selection is an inch too small!!!!! You'll need to move up to something XXX/XX/17

*edit*

As to your choice, 205 will be about flush with the wheel, 215 will give you a little bit of extra meat on it and should safely fit.

Sidewall is up to you, the thinner the sidewall though the harsher your ride is going to be. I don't think I'd personally go below 45.

*edit2* Looks like some guys are running up to 225/45 on 17x7" wheels.

I'm running 215/45 on my 17x7 rims. No rubbing.

Yeah, its best to replace the shocks while everythings apart. I've learned it the hard way. Stock shocks aren't meant for lowering springs. Tokico is a good place to start.

Haha thanks for all the help guys!

I really don't want to spend ALL of the money I've got left over, I am currently in college and out of work as of a few months ago, so I want to hold on to at least 300-400 bucks. I might put my new Tein H-Techs on the maketplace here because I am not sure I'll be installing them.

As for buying the wheels, I am still debating whether or not to get them. We'll see!

The Falken Ziex is a decent all-season tire and the price is good.

And as mentioned above...dont order the wrong thing 205/50/16 is for a 16" wheel. 205/45/17 is the correct sizing for your accord.

215/50/16 is exactley the same diameter as oem specs, i wouldnt suggest gettin 16" 5zigens, the wheel itself will look tiny.
and btw, check out the classifieds at zilvia.net there are always tons of 5zigens w/tires for sale for cheaaaap.

Hey, thanks for all of the replies guys!!

I still have the Tein H. Techs, but I am debating on getting them installed to just sell them, buy some Megan Racing headers and then buy the 5Zigen FN01RC's off of discounttire.com

We shall see!
