HALP: 94 Hatch has been sitting for about a year... now its overheating!

Default HALP: 94 Hatch has been sitting for about a year... now its overheating!

I fired up my Civic that had been in the body shop for about a year (don't ask lol) and all seemed well at first (The car had no coolant when I picked it up but I added that before I started it), then the temp gauge started rising and didn't stop. It was pinned on 'H' and the car started smoking (white). I pulled over right away, now the car is sitting. What should I check first?

Yeah, white smoke suggests burning coolant in the cylinders (=blown head gasket).

Does the radiator fan run?

In the meantime, replace the thermostat and radiator cap, and then try bleeding the cooling system:

1) Park the car on an inclined driveway with the front end higher than the rear.

2) Push the dash heater lever/**** to MAX heat.

3) Follow the directions in the diagram below (hint: the bleed bolt is located where the upper radiator hose connects to the engine):
