The thing on the floor next to the fuel cover release that is SUPPOSED to engage/disengage the Valet function (or something like that) has NEVER worked on my 93 EJ2... Any suggestions or comments? Perhaps an explanation of what it is supposed to do?

 

that would be the trunk lock.

lol. The idea is that you can put valuable things in the trunk, then give the valet the valet key, which will allow him to start and drive the car, but not open the trunk.

Try locking that using your NORMAL key, and see if you can use the remote trunk release lever. It shouldn't work. Then try unlocking it with the valet key. That also shouldn't work. Then try unlocking the trunk or the folddown seatback with the valet key. Also shouldn't work.

It's basically a key that disallows trunk access.

 

This is only for most EG models right? Doesn't the EK have it by the rear speakers?

 

My EK (I know, I know, EJ8) has a trunk lockout on the front driver's side floor next to the trunk release, and a trunk lock on the back dash between the speakers.

yup by the driver's seat where the trunk release is and also on the rear deck, also I like the feature where your in the back and just reach in and pull the two handles and you can put the seats down that way too.

 

Isn't it the same deal with the glovebox? One master key does all, but the valet key can't open the trunk or glovebox (if locked).

The problem is that I can put the key in, but it doesn't turn. I've tried penetrating solvents, wool wax, etc. and still no-go... Is there a cable involved (like the hood release) that might have seized?

I know it seems trivial, but I don't like having anything on my car that doesn't work properly.

Doesn't turn where, in the trunk lockout? It won't turn there. It's designed to NOT open the trunk lockout. No amount of pb blaster will make it turn in the trunk lockout.

See if it'll open your door and start your car. That's ALL it should do.

Regular key works in all locks/ignition. Valet key ONLY works in the doors/ignition. That's it. No trunk. No seat folddown. Nothing more complicated than that.

 

Yeah, does the key open the trunk & glove box? If so, then it's most likely the master key & there's something wrong with the lockout. If not, then you only have the valet key.

 

It is definitely the Master Key... I had two cut from the dealer using the VIN, and for the first time, I could open the trunk with the key. They both work perfect in all other places... no sticking at all. But even with the original factory master key, the valet lock NEVER worked. I'm willing to take every thing apart to get it working, and that is what I was hoping somebody could help me with.

Sooo.... If the key will not turn, assuming there is nothing wrong with the key, what is likely the problem???

 

If it opens the trunk it should be the master key. Maybe it is locked up under the cover. Haven't taken one apart myself, so no idea what the actual problem is.
