Default 5w-40 synthetic ok to run?

I was told that 5w-40 was the oil for my s2000, and then cleary saw the cap labeled 10w-30 when I put it back on. Is this going to increase wear on the motor, should it be changed, car is going into storage in a week.

You can use both no problem. 10w-30 is recommended and 5w-40 should be changed sooner due to the way it breaks down.

i run amsoil signature series 0w30, its designed to replace 5w30 and 10w30. make a little extra power and lasts a long time.

The stuff I put in was over $7.00 a quart, the intent was not to skimp. I went in to buy oil for my civic and asked the counter guy what was recommended for the S. I just bought this car and it didn't come with a manual or tonneau cover ...

The oil I put in is synthetic if that makes any difference.

Thats your problem... you asked the guy at the counter... all you had to do was look at the oil cap... it says it right on there... or heres a novel idea, wait until you get home and make sure its the right one and then go back to the store at a later time...

I used valvoline synpower. Sorry I didn't have the oil cap handy in my pocket to reference while at the store.

@jdogg do you still have the same oil pressure while running the 0w30?

Do you not have the owners manual?

10w-30 for normal changes. If the temperature gets below 0 degrees f in your area then you can use 5w-40.

5w-30 isn't going to cause any problems either.

Unless you're tracking your car alot or even racing it then there is NO cost/performance advantage in using expensive oils (like amsoil) espcially if you change your oil every 3k with Dino or 5k with SYN.

You'll be fine.

People think/read into oil way too much and end up throwing away a lot of money and time in doing so. The 5w-40 synthetic is an acceptable replacement for natural 10W-30. It's not a problem.

i dont have an oil pressure guage, but the pressure comes up on startup just the same.

its what i ran in my built h22 and what i run in my integra. that oil goes 20k miles easy in my integra. I plan on 7500-10 on the S.. i put a good 100 miles a day on the car so tend to forget how quickly the miles come on. thats why i originally switched to amsoil was to extend the drain intervals.

plus, i beat the crap out of my cars, so good oil is a must.

as its been said before, changing synthetics at 3k is tossing money away.

isnt the factory service interval for the s2000 5000 miles or so anyway?

Hello ...
sorry that run post in this topic, but did not want to run new to share my problem.
A few months ago I bought a s2k. Until now it was in the garage and car on fire once a week.
A few days ago I checked the oil level and the level was just below the minimum. This worried me, because I understand that the car spends oil.
Traveled 3,000 miles are for one year with MOTUL 5W40.
Please tell me what to do? The car drives very aggressively. I want to know Is this normal? To lower oil? To change it to another?
Please help!
Sorry for my bad English
The car is 135 000miles

It's normal for an S2000 to burn oil. It sounds like your engine used about a quart of oil over 3000 miles, which is normal and acceptable. You should get into the habit of checking your oil level more often and topping it off as needed. It's not a problem for an engine to consume a minor amount of oil, but it's a big problem to run the engine low on oil. I've found that the lower you allow the oil level to drop, the faster it will burn off.

"car on fire once a week" - there's your problem right there.

You will be fine, no need to change the oil. Just switch it to 10w30 at your next change interval.
