help!! green vs. blue coolant
Hello,
I know that this topic has been brought up before as I've searched the forum. But here's the deal -
I went to valvoline for an oil change and they recommended a radiator flush. I am car-clueless basically, so said yes after they explained that i'm at 60K and it'd be good to do before the winter. So, now I have the green coolant. I called my husband on the way home, and he said that I am supposed to only get that done at Honda b/c they use a blue coolant vs. the green coolant that Valvoline uses.
But, my husband didn't know if that's all just hype, or if I should be making an appointment at Honda to get it flushed out and put the blue in.
Now, this will cost me $130 (as I don't do it myself) to have it re-done at Honda and I just paid $95 at Valvoline.
Can someone provide me with feedback as to what they would do if they were in my shoes. would you go to honda and have them put in their special coolant, or just leave it be with the green coolant?

the blue coolant is just a honda thing. i dont necessarily think that its any better. you might as well just save the money and not have it done at honda.
you should be fine .. as long as they did a complete flush.
you start running into problems when you physically mix two different colors together, but that's not so bad with today's "multi colored" coolants
you're fine. if not, sue valvoline

Why not go back to Valvoline and explain to them that they put the wrong color in your car, technically it should have the blue in it, see if they can fix there mistake at their cost, it's not that it's necessary, but the blue is a extended long life coolant versus the green, which according to honda just means that it last longer, the only main thing with the blue is that honda wants you to think that it's a must, personally i'd stick with it just due to the extended part, and when you compare price teh honda fluid is cheaper then most pre-mix fliuds, not by much but at 16.95 per gallon it's not to hateful
Honda says it's ok to mix blue with the green, but not the other way around. The big difference is the green coolant is made to be used until about 60k miles, the new blue coolant that honda puts in all their cars now lasts about 100k miles. As long as they completely flushed your system of the blue than your ok. But next time you get it changed, i recommend the blue coolant.
