what's up with my MPG?
Doesnt look to bad i would say your averaging about 22 miles per gallon, considerring our cars were rated at 26 highway and 25 city you are are not in to bad of shape unless most of your miles were highway

I get between 28-30 on my '01 ITR. I was getting around 22 before I changed by upstream oxygen sensor. Are you aware of any mechanical issues with your car? emission issues? They could possibly be the reason for your poor gas mileage.
Set up is I'm running LS/VTEC with CTR CAMS and CTR PISTONS and Spoon Cam Gears. That's basically I know about the car since I just bought it. And I have no idea with emission issues, how do I check on that?
I would say check and clean the intake filter, clean throttle body plate while your waiting for your filter to dry, clean your FITV or IACV depending on what year your car is, replace your fuel filter if it hasn't been done yet, check your spark plugs, wash your car
, check and jack up the tire pressure. Your O2 sensors might be on their way out too but thats probably the most expensive fix so i would leave that one for last.

I am curious what others are getting for average MPG?
I average about 31 mpg so far with a pretty even mix of city and highway.
5th gear could have had a better ratio for improved fuel economy.
Its only a 500 rpm drop from 4th to 5th, so Im thinking Toyota had some interns engineer that one.

Bad gas mileage, most of the time, is not hard to fixed. First and foremost, check you're o2 sensor, it's a main contributor to bad gas mileage as well as incorrect timing. Spark plugs, spark plug wires, fuel filter, etc. etc. should be check as well.
24-26 in a mix of mostly local driving with some highway. 28-31 on long trips all highway. About the same numbers, '94 GS-R and '01 ITR, bone stock.

In my 97 gsr with usdm itr pistons and an ls tranny i filled up once with 3.5 gallon right when the car started to bog out of fuel. Drove it 126 miles untill it sttarted to bog out. Thats +/- 36 mpg. Considering my car runs lean and i was BFF with the gas pedal for the 126 miles feathering it and shifting at no more then 3.5k rpms. I know this isnt the right way to figure it out but just saying. Oh this includes mostly citty driving and sometimes highway.

I looked over the car and it has a couple of things. Vafc installed thats not really tuned. Lsvt. And a chipped ecu. I do not recall a cel. Really needs to be tuned. There was one more issue that I can not recall.
Btw, can I clean my intake filter with just water and soap? I have a no name filter. For the time being until I get money to buy a K&N one?
When I had my Integra, I'd keep it under 3k when on the highway and take my time. I still do with my EK (35+mpg wOOT!), only when I'm not late for anything. So plan ahead and cruise with the semi-trucks lol ugh... sucks being a broke student.
