Default good questions about 88 civic

well first off its a canadian model just in case that matters

but i have a 88 civic with a d16
and my clutch is going out and i have cracked seals and a few minnor things
but the guy wants to charge me over $800 for it
and i know it wouldn't be too hard to do but i have no time to do that myself right now

and i am wondering should i just buy a new transmition for it or fix the one i have

another thing is i still have the stock 4 speed transmition
and i want to put a 5 speed in it

and i think it would be cheaper to buy a new trasmition cause i know a guy that wants $200 for a 5 speed
but my question is are transmitions universal for honda motors cause i want to do an engine swap once i save up some money somewhere between a b16 to b20

another thing is if i bout that 5 speed i would change the clutch and seals and stuff just in case

Any D series tranny will bolt up to any D series engine. You just need the flywheel/clutch for the specific transmission. Check the FAQs for more info.
