how hard is it to install - CIG Lighter and Clock in a STD hatch.
well, i got a 1989 STD hatch, it had no cig lighter nor a clock. was wondering how hard is it to install those 2 items. i see the cig lighters in the center console has a harness plug to it and same goes for the clock. did the STD hatch come with all those harness connections, if not would i have to get a new under dash harness to make this work?
Thanks
Thanks
I don't know off the top of my head, but I would pull out the center console vents and check to see if the plug is there for the clock, it takes seconds.
i am almost poistive they come pre-wired. just like the a/c buttons are also prewired and just have button deletes with the plug pluggin into an empty slot.
Thanks. i will take off everything tonight.
anybody have pictures of the plugs itself?

There shold be a lil 4 pin plug clipped onto the dash from in the center console; You can trace it down from the wire bundle that the cluster and clock are on.
go to the back of your stereo, follow the plug and you should have 2 wires coming off of the stereo harness. with a 4 wire plug. but there will only be 2 wires on it.
this is what the crx one looks like from behind. civic should be similar.

Thanks Crx, i need picture of where the plug will be located on the car. since my radio harness is chopped off i dont see an 4 pin wire anywhere by the radio harness. was just wondering where the wire leads to so i can find it and put the 4 pin harness.
I did both also easy and if you want the rear cargo light is prewired to,any rear EF cargo light will work did mine.
I never found the plug for the rear cargo light, bought a crx one and pulled the block off plate off my std and didn't see the wiring back there for it. Guess I didn't look hard enough??
It is a 2-wire plug...
i look. behind the console nothing, no plug of any sort. radio harness seems to have been cut, all the way back in the dash area. will look for it when i remove the dash and redo the radio harness
thanks man. Yeah the harness being cut is why you can't find the plug because its at the end of the harness where your stereo plug is, apparently where the harness is cut. Its really not hard to replace the dash harness if you wanted to. Just have to remove the dash and unbolt the old harness and bolt the other up, if you've never done it before you could probably be done still in about 2 hours, probably less. I'm pretty sure I have a spare harness laying around if you want it.
Hi
I was wondering if you had found the answer to the problem you were having with the lighter and clock wiring as I am having the same problem. My radio stereo has just recently been installed but I had it done by a pro car audio fitting place. The previous owner cut alot of the wires, I think the lighter one is under the steering wheel but not sure which one it is, probably same with the clock.

There are two different cigg plugs. In my 89' dx it was a two wire plug. My 89' Si had a four wire plug. The four wire plug is different and has a light-up glow ring around the lighter hole. Make sure that you get the correct lighter with the same plug that your car came pre-wired with. The clock is simple plug-n-play.
Hi.
Thank you for your reply
I see what you mean, but the problem I'm having is my teg lighter had four plug but I don't think my car has any. What I mean is I think the previous owner hacked alot of the plugs off for what ever reason and all the loom seems to be under the steering wheel, I hope its there any way. Any ideas what I can do about this?
