haha, you're lucky you get to start with civics when you're young! I'm 21 and just getting into it, I'm already addicted. But one thing you better understand: haters!
They suck, don't become one no matter how knowlegeable you become about this stuff. or anything for that matter. Just show respect and if they won't do the same, forget 'em.

Hi there.

My advice is:

1. don't take personally what people say on honda-tech about you or your car. This place is a gigantic flamefest, and that's part of the fun. If you get all panty-wadded about everything negative someone says, you won't last here.

2. function > form

3. You don't need a fast car in high school. Learn how to keep your car properly maintained before you start trying to make it fast. A lot of the same principals apply, but maintenance is more useful.

4. most chicks don't dig Civics anymore.

5. no matter what, someone on h-t will have something nasty to say about your car. People have different tastes. That's fine.

welcome Selkertic!

I think the other posters covered the basics. Be mindful of the haters here, sometimes its fun other times its ridiculous.

One other thing is this site is full of all sorts of useful info. Learn how to use the search and if u are looking for parts keep your eyes on the Marketplace, it usually has some decent stuff.

GOOD luck OP!

Cool, cool.

PROTIP: a 97 EX (if it's original engine) does not have camshafts. It has a camshaft. One.

Now, a good upgrade to that car would be to put camshafts into it. And by that, I mean to swap in an engine that has 2 camshafts. Throwing cams at a D series is a great way to throw money away without really doing anything, unless you go with a REALLY crazy D setup, which will likely not be very streetable, and still be expensive and less powerful than a simple turbo setup.

All that said, turbo or swap it, in my opinion.
