91 accord TSB 289 - Faulty TCM
I've diagnosed my 1991 Accord and determined that my car has a faulty Transmission Control Unit (TCM). My problems consist of starting in 3rd gear with the S-light illuminated. I can manually shift to first but second and fourth are gone. After driving a little bit the problem goes away and I get all gears back. Here's a link to some more explanation... http://autorepair.about.com/library/faqs/bl814f.htm
So I'm settled on finding a new TCM but I have no clue which TCM is the right one. I don't just want to get another one from a salvage yard that will crap out on me in a month or two. Has someone had this repair done at a honda dealership? What TCM do they use as a replacement?
Thanks.

Have you checked your ATF? Assuming it's an Auto...
A big part of a hydrolic tranny shifting is the fluid...or lack there of. If their's not enough fluid in the tranny itself, you will loose gears intermittinly
