1) hmm, im honestly not sure. i thought it was just OBDI & OBDII vehicles

2) that should be OBDII

3) yes you should have had to change the ecu with the motor.

someone correct me if im wrong.

Actually, the engine* is any OBDx you want it to be.
It's what's attached to it (in the way of sensors, etc) that makes the determination.

As an example: An H22 out of a '94 prelude starts a OBD1, but if you install the intake and exhaust manifolds (and their associated sensors off a '97 prelude); it now becomes an OBD2.

Your '90 ride has came as a OBD1. The engine of which you mention started as an OBD2.

The short of it?
Take the head/block assembly of the F23a1 and swap it with the '90 version, using all the original sensors / wiring ect.

P.

I thought there were differences in the OBD when it came to the crank sensors?

May be wrong though.

There you have to be careful. Automatic Transmissions supplied prior to the '96 year (I believe) are controlled by a separate control module, a TCM (Transmission Control Module). After '96 this function was incorporated in the now named PCM (Powertrain Control Module)

Manual Transmissions do not have these issues.
There may well be some information within the FAQ thread at the beginning of this sub-forum.

If the final configuration will be an F23A1 (converted to OBD1) in a '90 Accord EX, then reuse the original EVERYTHING. In effect you're pulling out the F22 block/head assembly and slipping in the F23.

thank you so much you have been most helpful so in short i guess everything on the original motor was changed over to the f23a block so i will have to do the same for the replacement tranny.

i knew when i bought it that it had a transmission problem

i am trying to find a replacement tranny and dont have the slightest idea which tranny is being used in it now i know the 4th gen accord comes with a F22A4 non vtec does anyone know where a tranny stamp would be on the tranny and any operational differences between the original f22a4 non vtec tranny and a tranny from the f23a1

i need help getting a list of which tranny is compatible with my motor and harness and any and all parts that i will need to replace while swapping i will need to make this car my daily driver. the car runs and idles like new but when it is put into gear it doesnt shift off the bat it makes a grinding noise (ex.. of carpentry saw type noise) and will shift roughly into gear but wont make the noise in netural or while in park but while in park the key cannot be turned to the off position to cut power i am reading in different post that a h22/23 tranny will bolt up to it but how much mods have to be done to make the swap work also i am trying to find out how do i find out which year my engine was made so i can get a simular tranny (ex.f23a1)

your help and suggestions is gladly appreciated

i can be reached at da_real_pr_badboy@yahoo.com anytime it fowards straight to my phone
