2006 Civic EX 4 dr engine sounds like a diesel engine??
Hi guys,
Having a some strange engine noise. It sounds like that rattling noise that diesel engines make. There's 132,000 km on it, I service regularly from the dealer. The dealer wants to investigate, but I just want to get some input from you all. Does anyone have a simular sound coming from their engine? Anyone have any idea what maybe causing it? I just want an idea so I can prepare myself on what to expect for repairs and costs, as it is no longer under warrenty. Aside from that sound the car runs smoothly. Thx for all your time in advance.

check engine light, rod knock is when you've spun a bearing..and yes it will be expensive if it is that, most likely you would need a rod/crank...but i wouldnt jump to conclusions..
well to me it seems to be the only reason why a gas engine would sound like a diesel.
because valvetrain noise wont make it sound like a diesel. i would take it to the dealer and just have them look at it. most likely they'll tell you whats wrong with it, then try to screw you over with the repair. especially when it comes to warranty coverage and they try to ease their way around it so that they make money off of you.

My 06 EX 4 door had a rattling sound from the engine bay. It was a deep sounding rattle, not as bad as a diesel, but my sound could be compared to a faint deisel.
Open your hood then start your car and listen.
I found some of my heat shields were loose. I was surprised that the noise had not sounded more like metal on metal.
Good luck.

Finally got that noise fixed at my honda dealer. The belt tensioner was loose. OMG I can't believe how quiet my car is again. It's like having a new car again lol
don't mean to thread jack, but we are talking about engine bay sounds in general..
anyone ever feel like sometimes their car runs really smooth, then other times it sounds like you shouldn't rev it past 4k? could this all be in my head??
99% of the time i feel like it runs a little rough after 20-30 min of driving.
