I WANT 2 BOOST MY LUDE- SC or Turbo??
First off i have an jdm h22a with roughly 70k miles in my 96 prelude. i have been reading a lot on here and i want some boost(lol). but i have been debating on supercharger or turbo, but since the h22a has 10.8-1 cr wouldnt the supercharger be the best for how the engine is now? cuz i heard superchargers love high compression. and i figured i would see good results from the supercharger for cheaper than the turbo considering its a DD car and it wont ever see over 300 whp anyway. And i know turbos have the ability to make more power than the SC if u spend the money on internals to handle it, but since im running OEM internal and want good power for not a lot of money i was leaning towards the supercharger. I am also leaning towards the SC cuz i doubt im boosting higher than 6-8 lbs, and no matter if the boost is from SC or turbo 6-8 lbs is 6-8 lbs. and being the same would SC be better cuz u have the boost w/o having to spool???
but on the other side wont the SC get horrible gas milage and wear my engine faster considering its always boosting?
Im just looking for some experienced insight.

I dont think you can supercharge a 4th Gen Prelude dont think it fits or there is some serious work that has to be done. Which makes its not worth it. If your not leaning to 300whp then I suggest u do some major bolt ons and go n/a.
I recommend some more research before getting anything. Search on google how turbos and superchargers work. Not trying to be an ***, but you dont seem to know how these things work and WILL blow up. But to help out.... A supercharger does not "like" more compression, any boosted application will prefer a lower c/r to help keep off detonation, specially if the s/c doesnt have an intercooler. Also the s/c does not constantly boost. The BPV keeps the supercharger from creating boost, depending on the throttle position. Someone with more experience please jump in. I know a good chunk about FI apps, but he might not listen to me, because I dont have that many posts XD
there are superchargers for the 97 up preldude. some firewall mods will have to take place to make it fit. both are expensive and to be honest a turbo will probably be cheaper. you can make 280-300 whp reliably on the h22. Buying a kit off the internet is an expensive route. pick up corky bells book about turbo's. you can piece together a kit relatively cheap that will make you good power. n/a is expensive....see my sig. for the money ive spent on my n/a build i could have had a nice turbo set up but its all about what you want. I enjoy beating v8's and turbo imports n/a. more bragging rights that way : )
Well looks like turbo it is. lol. and i know i dont know near as much as most of you on here, but that is mainly the reason i have been so addicted to this site for the past few days. I cant gather enough info about all this stuff to even come close to satisfying me. But yeah, i dont know hardly anything about anything that provides boost. just like when i see the numbers for the turbos, that is all greek to me. I have a fairly decent concept of n/a and how to get power, but still no wear even close to where i would like to be. This whole site has been such an addiction for me. mainly cuz everything i know has come from me just tinkering on my own, i have a good mind for this, i just dont have the knowlegde stored to put my mind to use. make since? lol

could anyone post some links of some good threads i could learn from? i would greatly appreciate it. I rummage through and i find alot of dead ends or just bits and peices of things that i cant really comprehend because i dont have a basic understanding of the terminology and whatnot.
There are plenty of threads that have proved this on various forums. It can fit a 4th gen with no mods to the firewall or even the brake cylinder reservoir. It simply requires some rerouting of cables and pipes at the rear and there is still an inch or so space. The major issue is the clearance of the strut tower and shock top mount. Some people have cleared them either by making new brackets which bring the belt up and over a little more or the cheaper method of some persuasion of the corner of the strut tower with a hammer and grinding down a bit of the top mount. Other things like stiffer motor mounts and engine dampers help to keep it in place to not rub when the engine is torqing. Either way works fine.
I think his thoughts are quite valid in that for everyday power on stock internals it is a more reserved option. But I do agree with all the other comments made about doing some more research. A turbo or supercharger application are both going to put extra stress on the engine even with a moderate power increase. So if your planning to stick with standard internals I wouldn't push things and make sure you tune it safe enough. Anything to help keep the intake temp down will help but not easy on JR roots blowers sitting directly on the intake manifold.
Oh and I'd agree with the cost of the options unless a good used JRSC kit can be found for a good price.
I for one have researched and have jumped between SC and Turbo more times than I like to remember. But have finally settle on SC as I've managed to source one at a good price. Oh and mine is a 4th gen too. I'll show you it fits. ;o)
