Default Prelude Gearbox options

Hi

I have a JDM Prelude (2.2 DOHC F22B engine) currently with an auto gearbox.

I am okay with the auto gearbox but let's face it, you can't beat a manual, so i'm looking at the options.

I have looked for other jdm f22b's and they all seem to be autos so looking at other models.

I can buy a prelude s 2.0 manual car pretty cheap (part body damage) and could use the gearbox and other needed parts (pedals, shifter etc).

Main question:

Is there a major drawback to using the 2.0 manual gearbox? Do I really need a JDM 2.2 gearbox for better gear range? Would a H22 or a H23 gearbox be better?

Cheers in advance

Chris

Nevermind! I think i have figured this out now after a lot searching.

A lot of people seem to run away at the talk of an F22B engine

Here's what I figured after finding the gear ratios for the two gearboxes in question.

F22B Manual (M2J5) - Ratios 3.307 - 1.810 - 1.269 - 0.966 - 0.787 - 4.062
F22A1 Man (M2L5) - Ratios 3.307 - 1.810 - 1.230 - 0.903 - 0.705 - 4.062

Barely anything in it. After putting the figures through a gear calculator it reckons the F22A1 gearbox would accelerate about the same and top end speed would be slightly better.

So If that is correct then buying the 2.0 Prelude and using it as my donor may be a good idea after all.

Chris.

Both those transmissions are considered pretty crappy. The H-series (and some Fs) have 4.266 final drive transmissions and are much more desirable.

Basically anything that doesn't have the 4.0x final drive.

For comparison, my friends H22 w/ F trans with 4.0x FD would drop out of VTEC for ~10mph on the 1-2 shift. WEAK!
