i was driving my car last week and the speedo stopped working. it would work sometimes but now it stopped working completely after i replaced the trans. i tried cleaning the speed sensor with brake cleaner and that didnt work. i had a spare and i put that in and my speedo still does not work!

my car also stopped starting so i changed the igniter/rotor on the dizzy. the car stated fine but the rpm gauge stopped working. when i start it up it jumps up to 1k and the gauge just dies right away. itll go up to like 300-400 rpms when i hit the gas and let off. but it just dies again.i exchanged the igniter for another new one just to make sure that was not the problem but that still didnt do anything.

i have a chipped ecu so when i go full throttle it limits my revs. i guess u can call it limp mode. would this have anything to do with my gauges not working? the car goes to redline when im on the throttle partially but if i got full throttle itll just set a rev limiter at whatever rpm i go full throttle.

its probably a loose wire in the back

Check all the wires in the back of the cluster to make sure nothing is loose.

 

I bet you it´s the vss plug

 

What model engine do you have. I had this exact problem with my 89 integra after I changed my clutch and after weeks of troubleshooting it ended up that my speedometer cable wasn't hooked in all the way
