Weird mechanical issue on a 03 civic, the dealer can't even figure it out.
i'm posting this for my pops, he's got a 03 civic ex. he's had it for about 3 years and it's been running completely fine till about a month ago.the problem is When he hits the gas to take off from a stop or a red light or whatever, the rpms go up but it doesn't rev until it catches and goes, then jerks again like he let go off the gas, then jerks back in motion and goes... when it gets up to speed like 40 or something, it drives normal. his mechanic tried for days to figure it out, he couldn't hook it up to a computer since his broke and he doesn't have 7gs for a new one, so my dad took it to a honda dealer, got a diagnostics and they told him it could be like 20 fkin things... one of them was a timing belt i guess so he changed that, but it didnt solve the problem... so now he's stuck in place not knowing what to do with it. i know this is a good source to find some help so hopefully something pops up... i appreciate any answers thanks
sounds like the transmission, it was 100% not the timing belt.
get it out of the dealer and to a mechanic who actually has the proper tools.

As a Honda tech, I've seen the EGR to cause a serge or hesitation on take off "even with no m.i.l/ check engine light". Test drive it, make it happen then park it open the hood and disconnect the EGR by unpluging the connector. Then test drive it again to see if the problem goes away. If it does replace the EGR. If not check the transmission level to see if it filled to spec and not under/over filled you could have a tranny problem.

Hey, I have a 03 EX automatic. Have your father look into the transmission fluid and the unit itself. I just figured out the seal on my tranny dipstick was leaking and worn. Not that low ATF fluid is the problem but just something to consider on top of that the 01-02 Civics had auto tranny issues among members over at Civicforums.com I'm sure some batches of the 03 were given crap transmissions. *knocks on wood* the dealer is right though, could be 1 or many more problems.
On a side note: the patrol car I drive is a ford escape and gave out similar symptoms as your father described. it later became the tranny was ****ed so bad that the "D" gave out and we had to drive it in "D2/D1" before it was towed away.

If you open the hood and look directly at the engine it is right next to the valve cover on the left it kind of looks like an igtion coil it is on the waterneck
