Default 5 Lug Conversion and axel issues

My current axels are not going in smoothly with my USDM 32mm ITR axels (i think). I have to lightly tap the spindle while pushing the axel to fit. The axel doesn't fit all the way and it doesn't feel right. THESE ARE NOT JDM 36MM AXELS BECUASE I USE A 32MM NUT TO GET THE AXEL OFF (CORRECT?). So this is not the issue and if it was than it would fit at all because the diameter of 36mm are too big for the hole. I'm trying to identify what year the 5 lug is so that I can match it up with the same year of the axel. Is there a stamp or a number on the 5 lug that I can use to identify what year it is?

-Possible myth buster - everyone says that 96-00 Honda axels will work for all USDM Type R's. I think I have 01 ITR 5 lug and they need 01 ITR axels to work.
