Default Lead me in the right way.... just purchased a turbo kit...

hey guys i have 00 SI with the original motor, my friend sold me his turbo kit.. its homemade all i know is it is a ihi off of a Subaru. All i have is the down pipe, exhaust manifold, and the oil and waterlines. can some one lead me to the right direction? this is my first time boosting an engine and i really want to do it correctly.

Follow your sig. If its off a suby, i think you will need to get a new turbo manifold down pipe, etc.

do i absolutely need a intercooler? as you know turbo kits that are pieced together are illegal in California..

what isnt illegal in california?

youre gonna need and intercooler if you plan on pushing any power. It doesnt have to be front mount though. the water to air coolers are getting pretty cheap these days....You need to look at the FAQs at the top of the FI section

if oyu want any kind of power and safety(as in less chance of blowing your motor), tune it.

maybe u shouldnt boost rite now seeing as u had to ask the question about the intercooler and tune. boosting a car isnt easy. a turbo isnt a plug and play accesory. do more research before u jus throw turbo on ur motor and cause problems with it.

The IHI turbo will provide very good spool characteristics, but your car will lack in the top end as it probably will start choking itself out before you hit redline.

As most people said, you might not want to boost your car, or take it to someone that has done it before, as there is much for you to learn before doing it.

If you want your car to be reliable, yes you will need it tuned.

yea guys im kind of taking it easy right now.... i want to get comfortable and learn as much as i can before installing it... i would rather do it right the first time. does the sixe of the down pipe matter? my DP is quite small...

no really, you need to spend about 2 months looking through all these threads.

I researched for over 2 months.. and collected parts for 9 months,

It's not easy boosting and complications are a plenty.
