Hey
About sometime in late Aug., the bearing off my GS-R differential exploded for some odd reason. The shim for the ball bearing covering the ***** exploded and caused nothing but chunks of metal in my transmission.
Did some research and investigation and came across Evans Tuning 3-Part "How to swap a B-Series Differential" video. (Very great and resourceful video might I add) Watched the vid a numerous amount of times before I went to work on it.
I eventually opened up the trans and went to work (removing reverse gear selector, gear changer, base, counter and mainshaft) and eventually removed the diff. To my surprise not only was the bearing damaged, but the differential had a crack in it. I went online and purchased an '00 USDM ITR LSD.
Once again I followed the video step by step and installed everything the way it was meant to be. This past sunday my friends and I threw my transmission back on the car, went to test it out and it does not engage 1st or 2nd, however 3rd, 4th, 5th and reverse engage with no issues.
I need help from any tranny guru's to see what this may possibly be. I cannot figure it out. I currently have the transmission open and looking over everything I did.
There was a portion of the video (part 3) when the instructor was stressing the position of the shifter rod must be in the middle before installing the gear selector and base. I shifted the rod through all three positions to see and understand what he was speaking of. Left it in the middle (second position) but still nothing is happening.
Does anyone have any insight as to what may be causing my tranny to not engage 1st or 2nd gear?
Thanks for any help in advance.

On the outside of the transmission housing there are two bolts with the ball & springs that hold the forks in place. On these bolts, there are aluminum crush washers. If the washers are crushed, the bolts will go too far into the transmission and stop the fork from moving and either you 1st and 2nd or 3rd and 4th will not engage.
If the transmission is in the car DO NOT take it back out... yet!
Back out the bolts a bit and shift through the gears, if they shift okay, get new crush washers from a honda dealership.
Part#: 94109-12000
Good luck!

But I do like what you posted b/c when we were putting the casing back on, my friend asked me if I had known where the washer went for one of bolts that contained the spring and the ball. Supposedly I "lost" it and I told him to put it on anyway
Big mistake. Friday when I took out the bolt (was on the shift rod fork for 1st and 2nd gear) the ball was pressed into the bolt and permanently stayed there.
The washer I thought I lost was actually on the other shift fork rod for 3rd and 4th gear (I had two washer for one bolt
)Based on what you said, I believe this is the reason why I couldn't engage 1st or 2nd gear. Luckily a friend of mine had a spare bolt spring and check ball
