The pluses: It's oil.
The negatives: it's oil.
It's oil, dude.
You should be using 5W30, BTW. You're not really going to f#$k anything up. You might burn more of it...but whatever.

BTW, unless you're tracking the car regularly or the car has forced induction or something...you're spending too much money on oil.
My EM1 has 140k. I use regular dinosaur lube. It doesn't burn any. It still gets 30mpg. It still runs like it's brand new. I have tracked it. I have let my friend track it.
Regular *** oil. Change it every 3-4k. Done. Don't make your oil changes a science experiment.
I use off the shelf synthetic in my S2000 because I track that car very often. Once ever 1k street miles or so. If I just daily drove it like I do my Civic...I'd use regular *** oil in there too.

Well the oil pressure will drop alil but that's about it but not a significant drop so no worries. It is said once u start using synthetic that u must continue because of the way the syn bonds to the metal surfaces will cause regular oil to blow by more than normal but I haven't seen it do that so idk it's really up to u.

lol what? I switched back and forth from synthetic to regular twice. That whole "you MUST continue to use synthetic" thing is a myth.
Mobil1 sucks. I use full synthetic but burned alot of oil using mobil1. I swithced to Castrol and have hardly any oil consumption. If you've got a littl emore miles on your car you can try to use some 10w30 to increase the weight a little bit and prevent some blowby but I'm sure B_serious will have some reason why thats's such a horrible idea. Anyways, I read somehwere that Honda released a bulletin stating the Bseries motors should run 10w30 instead of the originally recommended 5w30. I don't know if this is true or not but maybe something to research if you care that much. Bottom line, regardless of the weight you go with, STAY AWAY FROM MOBIL1!! just my opinion.
+1 Switching between synthetic and regular, royal purple, mobil1, etc. seems fine.
Been doing this for about 10 years and never had a problem.
All in the all, I've never had a problem with a particular brand either. Somewhere round 6-7,000 miles

I have always used Mobil 1 and never had one problem my del Sol Z6 has 195,000+ and still runs like new I change the filter (mobil 1 also) at 3 to 4 thousand miles depending on how hard I am on it (Which is all the time) and change the oil at the second filter change. My engine is the cleanest inside that I have ever seen on a honda. Its really just your opinion but I'm wanting to see how many miles that thing will go before it has problems. Oh and Ive only had it for the last 60 or 70 thousand (hard miles). The filter is the most inportant thing really!
Wouldn't hurt to use it, wouldn't hurt anything if you didn't
Its just a regular ol' b16. IMO viscosity is more important. Especially if its just a dd.
I run standard 10w30 in my Lude, and ran the same in my GSR motor.
However, back in the day when I still had and EVO, I did run full synthetic 5w30.

My EM1 which i just bought not too long ago have 100k on it. should i stick with regular oil 5w30? my friend recommended to go full synthetic 10w30...need oil change soon havent decide which route to go
do the 5w30 and just check your oil say.. every time you fill up your tank. maybe every 500 miles. If you notice that you have to add oil after 1000 miles or less I would move up to a heavier weight. It's not like running 5w30 for 1 cycle is going to make it blow up or something. Either weight will work.

This is the way I look at Mobil 1. Exxon/Mobil is the worlds largest oil company thus they have the most $$$ to spend on R&D so they should have the best product. Plus its the only stuff Ive seen hold up in the machine tool industry. If its good enough for a multi million dollar milling machine then its good enough for my car.

Mobil 1 actually changed formulations recently. They're no longer a class something something or other...iduno. They're not what they used to be.
Whatever. If Valvoline is on sale at Wal-mart, that's what I buy. If it's castrol...fine. If it's pennzoil...fine. As long as they're a name brand oil company, I really don't care what goes in there. Like I said, my EM1 has 140k and I've had no issues.
Everyone is going to say how the oil that they use is the BEST because their car has 100something thousand miles and has no issues. Someone's going to say that about Castrol. Someone else is going to say that about Pennzoil. Someone else is going to say that about Mobil1. The reason they're all saying the same thing is....:drumroll:....because it's just freaking oil.
It's all slippery and it's all viscous to some extent.
For MOST normal street engines under normal street conditions (including occasional drag racing or whatever "spirited driving maneuvers" you're doing), regular oil is just fine.
The B16 isn't some kind of high tech race engine that requries a certain formulation of oil to keep it going.
Save your money for better things.

i heard about the new mobile 1 formulations too.not sure if true or not.from what i heard. mobile 1 was classified as a grade 5 oil up with royal purple, and dropped to a grade 3 being semi synthetic.
mobil 1 used to be something called tri-synthetic back in the day but now fully synthetic, Is that the change? I know it's been fully synthetic for a long time now. I usually run mobil 1 5w30 in all my vehicles but it I use dino conventional oil I will run castrol gtx and done so back and forth. I have castrol syntec to go in my civic next for when I drain out the gtx thats currently in there. I also use purolator pure one filters and change oil every 4k-5k miles.
Honda actually has 7500 mile oil change interval so it does look like a waste of money to change the oil out so soon but I do it for the peace of mind.

the part #'s for the purolator filters are 14459 and the pure one is PL14459. Amsoil makes good oil too but it's not readily available where I'm at unless you order it so I just use the mobil 1.

^^^^ elaborate! Cause I think ur eyes r brown!!
I have an oil pressure gauge to prove my statement that's all I need and the part about that use of synthetic was just something I was told back when it started becomeing popular.
