help! whats wrong with my civic?!?
my civic has black all on the bumper around the exhaust pipe and its getting worse i want to have the car painted but i refuse to do so untill i fix this problem! im thinking its running to rich maybe something to do with the fuel injection but idk. Advice pleasee!! heres what it looked like at first but it is gettg worse:
d16z6, aem cold air intake..
havent really checked gas mileage gauge seems to be off stays on F forever but then drops dramatically almost down to 1/2
no CEL codes, CEL is not on
Does the CEL work?
Burning or losing engine oil?
Any exhaust leaks?
When did you last replace the plugs, wires, cap and rotor and check the ignition timing?
Do you have an aftermarket fuel pump or FPR?

Judging from the picture alone...my first thought is that the black on ur bumper is from unburnt fuel ( rich mixture). My brothers car is tuned to rich and he has a mark very similar to urs. He burns no oil.
not burning or losing oil
new exhaust with no leaks
just bought the car around 2 months ago so i have not done any of that personally and fuel pump isnt aftermarket
Thanks, that was my first thought as well as you can see from my original post ^^ so what would you suggest i can do to prevent/ fix this before i waste money on paint that will be scarred?

Well u r running rich but now the question is y?? I would do a tune up (plugs, plug wires, dizzy cap and rotor, fuel filter, PCV valve, and fuel system cleaning) and check ignition timing. If it is still doing it than I would think an O2 sensor problem or something.
i think he may be running rich because of the full exhaust. i know alot of people throw the exhaust on and dont put the O2 sensors back in. or if its a like mine you have 2 sensors. only way i know to solve it is to convert to obd-1. but we dont have emissions around here either and im sure ther e is another way but i come from a dsm backround so i couldnt tell you
seems like your running rich. it could be the o2 sensor
If u didn't put ur 2nd O2 in the go to an exhaust shop or have a buddy weld a bung in and u'll b set.
LOL Cyberwaste but i think he's correct have seen that on alot of cars that generally see full throttle often while the muffler is not angled correctly away from the bumper
His problem is not muffler positioning. Mine's in the same location as his, and I don't get soot on the bumper. If you're blowing smoke at full throttle, there's a problem.
I'm still thinking PCV and/or weak front O2 sensor.

that has nothing to do with it! im not one of those that can ride around with mine sticking out far.
2nd O2 should have nothing to do with running rich. It's only for emissions, and all it does is tell if your cat is working right. That's why you'll throw a CEL for it if you remove the cat.

Yeah lets stick my muffler out so it can look like a rice wagon, lol.. ****!! If duck tape, bailing wire, or jb weld don't fix it than it's broke goooood..! Maybe u should take it to one of those mech-can-icks..
Some of u guys amaze me with ur ghetto way of fixing things and most of the time it's worse than the rednecks, lmao....
