all motor vs turbo GS-R
Hi im new to Honda-tech but anyway.. i just bought a 96 gsr not too long ago i got it with 220k miles and its burning oil like crazy! im guessing its my piston rings so i wanna replace them and rebuild my motor while im at it but i need some help... i dont know whether i should go F.I or all motor... i am looking for performance and reliability... this car is going to be driven almost daily... if i go all motor i want to do CTR pistons, buddy club spec 4 cams and buddy club springs and some good retainers or if i go turbo 9:1 CR and leaving everything else alone and boost 8-10 psi because i heard thats the most stock internals can take... if both setups were given a good tune which will be more reliable and give me the best bang for my buck?
I'm a NA guy and I can tell you this do not use CTR pistons. Read up on this and you'll know why.
As to your decision to go NA of FI look in those sections and look over the different builds at the top of the forms.
I suggest NA.

going forced induction or na is more of a personal preference. both will be reliable if built the right way. as for the motor only being able to handle 8-10 psi, isn't not really the psi that matters it's the power generated by the amount of boost. if you had a small turbo running high boost it would be about the same as running a big turbo with low boost.
I say NA as a I am a NA guy. However, I think if you do go Turbo you may want to do more than what you said. I didn't do one thing on my rebuild and I am kicking myself for it now.
Uhm, NA or TURBO, jsut depends on your reference really. Obviously you'll get way more power with turbo but everything has its pro's and cons. As for NA, Check out the All motor forum and read up on some stuff. Same goes for turbo. I'm sure you'll find all the answers to your questions. But if it was me, I'll go Turbo.
I think the best bang for your buck would be a turbo with a good tune. A turbo set up can be very reliable. I pieced together my turbo kit and all the parts cost me around $1500 just from waiting for the right parts and searching. My motor was stock yet I only ran 5psi from a small T3 turbo and made 235hp to the wheels which was perfect for me.
WELL CHEAP AND FAST ISN'T RELIABLE
CHEAP AND RELIABLE ISN'T FAST
FAST AND RELIABLE ISN'T CHEAP!!
ID SAY BUILT YOURE MOTOR SO IT CAN HANDLE EITHER WAY NA OR BOOST.
