Urgent help needed 99 Civic EX
I know this is a bit of a shot in the dark, but hoping one of the smart folks on this board can help.
I own a 99 Honda Civic EX. I purchased it new from the factory, have the title, etc.
Today my keys suffered an injury and my remote / alarm FOB cracked and came off my key chain somewhere. I called Honda service, the gentlemen I spoke with said he didn't know how to bypass the alarm on cars that old and that I should bring it in to have the remote replaced.
No problem, except I can't drive the car to get it to the dealer! I do not have a factory radio, I upgraded it about a year ago when mine went out. I can use the key to open the lock, the alarm blazes (glad it works!), but it disables the ignition.
I need to find a way to get to work tomorrow and I'm a bit clueless what to do next. I have no problem paying for a new remote or if necessary replacing the alarm with an aftermarket one, but I'm a bit stuck on the immediate need to keep my job.
Hoping someone can help...thanks!

From what I understood, the OEM alarm system takes it's signals from the OEM headunit.Do you have an aftermarket alarm system installed?
Just a shot in the dark for me too but I would try disconnecting and reconnecting the car battery. That might reset the computer and allow you to start the car without the alarm going off. Leave the battery disconnected for a about 5 minutes before reconnecting.
Bump for someone with more excperience.

Thanks for the reply! I assume the alarm is stock, I bought the car new straight from the dealer and didn't purchase an upgrade.
I'll try the battery suggestion, thanks again!

I know in 96-98 they did have the keyless entry/alram integraded in the stereo head unit but if I remember correctly they changed it up in 98. I can't remember exactly where they put the alarm unit after that, I know in toyota's it was under the driver seat. I want to say in civic's it's in the drivers door by the power lock moduel but i'm not 100% about that.
do the keyfobs say Honda on them? If so, then it's probably OEM. If that's the case, I really don't know.
Mine's aftermarket, and I have a hidden valet button. If I need to disable the alarm without the keyfob, I just stick the key in the ignition and hold down the valet button.
