Default Changing MTF on d16z6 tranny

Hey, so I think I'm due to have my MTF changed but I'm on a bit of a budget. What I'm wondering is if honda mtf is a better choice than synchromesh for the money because I've heard people say synchromesh is amazing and then others saying that its causing problems for their transmission after extended use.

I've noticed that I get a slight grind shifting into 3rd quickly at high rpm's (5500 rpm+) so I think my synchro is gonna need to replaced soon.

Supertech 10w-30

You need to change your fluid every other oil change. Know when it needs to be changed versus thinking when it needs to be changed.

Really that often? And I thought that you only wanted to use motor oil temporarily until you could get mtf

Yes. Transmissions don't have a filter unless you're running a cooler, and they get hot unless you run a cooler.

Honda MTF sucks. Its ok if you just drive the car normally and never get on it.

Well its just a stock engine/tranny, but I do like to have some fun every once in a while haha. It's not like I'm running 200 whp or anything though

every other oil change is excessive every 30k i would say especially if its stock and if ur not real hard on it...if u are hard on it than i would say every 20k...i would use honda mtf, much better in my book used a lot of others and had problems so switched back to honda mtf and haven't had any problems since

I totally agree.

15k fluid changes, manual or automatic and Honda MTF sucks in older trannys that where designed for 10w30 SF/SG motor oil.

IMHO I have laid out ALOT of the D tranny info, to which Chris was a student a while back, the same as Bense was. Guess what, student is now teaching the teacher. I do trannys on the side for fun, Chris is now doing it as a business. Lets not get into the issue we are sellers for competing gear makers, Gear-X vs MFactory, but we do share some info and help each other on the forums, also disagree on some issues.

What do YOU have to offer to the folks on the forums other than HATE?

You are only here to cause issues without really helping others.

How is the weather in FLA?

So for a d16z6 tranny I should have used motor oil? When I drained it, it was very dark brown leading me to think that it was either VERY old honda mtf or it was old engine oil. I was getting super worried because I bought honda mtf and it was pink. I was thinking, shoot this must be super old mtf!

Screw you Bone, I hate you.

If its brown it is just old and/or dirty.

Use either dino 10w-30 or a good MTF such as Torco. For 10w-30 I recommend Supertech.

Pfft.

Chris, read on OCO about H-MTF and switching to 10w30.

Immediate improvement, then after 30 miles everything was butter smooth.

don't know if you have had the car long or if you know the history, but dumb shops that don't know jack about honda's will put gear lube in like everything else.
