what is the best cold air intake for 4th gen?
I know this is probably posted a bunch of times but I didn't see any. I am looking to get a cold air intake for my 92 Si4WS. I was looking at the Iceman but they don't make them anymore so now I am looking at the AEM anyone got any suggestions? Any good places to buy them? I was looking at preludeparts but anyone know any place better?
I don't think that the 5th gen intake will fit on a 4th gen because when you order them you have to pay extra if it is a 4th gen. Also I believe I have read that the 4th and 5th gen have a completely different intake system... I am not 100% on this though just makeing and educated guess.

4th gen : 2.75"
5th gen: 3"
I had good gains (seat of the pants) when I had my AEM installed. THats the only one I have ever experianced, other that a hot air intake on a 5th Gen so I cant really reccomend anything but the AEM

I would probably say Iceman, but they are damn ugly. I think their advantage is the heat resistent material that they use. The AEM looks nice and performs great. I have yet to see a DYNO comparison between the 2.
You can make them fit but why bother...
4th gen : 2.75"
5th gen: 3"
because that's a big difference in airflow

I wanted to get the Iceman but the company that made the Iceman went out of business so I can no longer get the Iceman. I had ordered the Iceman but I was told that they do not make them anymore and that no one can get them. So is the AEM the best second choice? Does anyone know where I can get an Iceman still??
the diameter doesnt do squat..as long as the intake is the same size as the throttle body, wont hurt anything, im running a 2.5 AEM on my lude and it definately doesnt hurt my power..peace

Iceman is better than AEM on the 4th gen??
Honestly, when I had my AEM CAI I didn't notice much in gains at all. If I could have done it all over I would have went with iceman. Or I highly recommend a short ram intake with a good custom heat shield or heat shield box.

IT'S A FREAKING PIPE. Get some pvc and slap a filter on the end of it.
Or I highly recommend a short ram intake with a good custom heat shield or heat shield box.
What I'm trying to say is this: Don't go shelling out close to $200 for a CAI, just purchase a short ram and play around with different things. You'll be suprised at what you can accomplish power wise.
Does anyone know if they still make the Iceman?? If so where can you buy one??

Well, if you don't want a ghetto pvc pipe then get some inexpensive short intake. I honestly see no justification in spending $175+ on an AEM CAI.
Iceman is better than AEM on the 4th gen??
Iceman has a tapered design which noticably increases intake air velocity, a good thing. Iceman also tapers down to 2.75'' (99% sure) just like AEM, which means it will have better intake velocity and will be able to flow more air than the AEM.

Nitro at Endyn stated in their archives that the "ideal diameter for an intake is when the intake has 25% more cross-sectional area than the TB's bore cross-sectional area. Your TB diameter (overbored or not) dictates your intake diameter."
-Nitro from Endyn (possibly paraphrased by Tuan)
"Time for some basic trigonometry here and remembering that the area of a circle is pi x radius squared and the diameter = 2 x radius. For a 64mm TB the best value for an intake diameter is 2.8 in. This makes the Iceman tapered design (from 3.5 in. at the filter opening down to 2.75 in. at the TB) , at least theoretically from a fluid dynamics point of view, better than the constant 3 in. diameter."

theres my 3 cents with a little backup support from reliable sources.
peace
I've got the old AEM intake on my 4th gen w/ an actual funnel connected to the pipe, then the filter. Much bigger filter. Paid maybe $150 used for it w/ an extra filter.
If I had to do it again, I'd make a custom one. I think there was a write-up somewhere where someone used a U bend from summit. You could also buy a cheap short ram and extend it w/ some piping. Then paint/wrap/whatever. Save your money. You might get 1-2 extra hp w/ the "name" brand intake. Not worth it IMO. With the money you save, you could buy a custom exhaust.
