Default Replacing radiator- What OEM brand? What fans to buy?

1998 Acura Integra LS
T3/T4 Turbo with Log Manifold

So my radiator looks like it has a leak at the top so I'm probably going to replace it. It also looks like the tabs are broke on both the fans (they kind of move around) so I'm probably going to have to replace them also.

What OEM brand should I get? I saw Rock Auto has a Denso one that's like $95.00.

Also, because of the turbo I need slim fans. What do you recommend?

don't buy another radiator with a plastic top, it'll end up doing what your original radiator did. i bought one for my integra from radiatorbarn.com a few years ago, it was all metal. i'd go with that over a 'oem replacement.'

Will do. The metal one is only $60 more so I'll get it.

good idea . me and my bro both have/had (my bro still has his integra) radiatorbarn radiators and haven't had any issues with them. they used to be something like $135 shipped when we bought ours.

+1 on radiatorbarn. once my plastic cracked i swapped in a radiatorbarn all metal replacement. the stock brackets and fans bolt right up.

Take a look at Mishimoto. I as on TI and he posted their warranty and it seems like a good one.

So you put the fans on the front of the radiator? How does that work for intercooler fitment?

Sorry, already ordered the one from radiator barn.

Someone answer my question about the radiator fans. Do you change the blade direction and then mount them on the front? Or do they just blow forward towards the front of the car instead of sucking towards the engine block?

what is your intent? the radiator barn is going to be an OEM replacement that will bolt the stock fans up behind it just like your stocker.

All you have to do is switch +/- wires to get them push/pull when you wire them up. So if you wire them up and it turns out that they are pushing when you want them to pull, just wire them up opposite of the way you had them. Normally, most people agree that mounting on the back of the radiator and having the fans pull air in is the best method.

In the OP I said the fans that came with the car are pretty much toast. I have a turbo so I am not sure if the stock fans will fit.

Someone then recommended push fans and I was asking if these mount on the front of the radiator.

Can I just buy new OEM fans off of someone on HT? Will they clear the turbo?

i don't see how a pushing fan would work any better than a pulling fan, especially with a turbo.

when i had my radiatorbarn radiator with a turbo, i used 2 10" slim fans pulling and it worked just fine. you don't want any gap between the intercooler and radiator because the intercooler slows the air way down, making the radiator less efficient. ultimately, you'd want the intercooler touching the radiator (zero gap) for best results. as for the slim fans, i think the 12" fans would fit better on the radiator, but i still got the 10" ones to work just fine.

edit: the reason i used slim fans was because the stock fans wouldn't clear the manifold i was using (ebay log manifold).

That's exactly what I have. What brand did you buy? Do they hook right up?

i don't remember the brand, it was from a vendor on this site. the fan wires didn't have clips so i got a pair from some smashed oem fans i found. you can just cut them off your stock fans if you can't pull them off some damaged fans.

Is there some sort of shroud I need to buy or will the 12 inch fans mount directly to the radiator?

no need for shrouds, just attach the fans to the radiator and you're good.

Your best bet would be:

1. OEM fan and shroud...if it fits (free and highly effecient)
2. Slim puller fan w/ shroud (shrouds increase effeciency dramatically) mishimoto makes a decent setup for a budget http://www.mishimoto.com/mishimoto-h...ud-kit-92.html or you could make a custom shroud
3. Slim puller fan
4. Slim pusher fan

Also I recommend a quality fan like the spal 13" curved blade. Your typical "slim fan" will claim big cfm numbers but really they dont flow for ****
