Is a vw 07 rabbit worth the trade for a 07 civic ex?
Well that's descriptive.
Why don't you search for aftermarket support for the Civic, and do the same for the Rabbit. Then compare the prices to do whatever it is you want to "mod" since you don't say at all in the post.

I obliterated a Rabbit on the highway one night in a stock Si. And the silly wabbit had at least I/H/E, custom center-mount exhaust, and kits all the way around...
The r18 would probably handle mods better than the Rabbit.

VWs have horrible transmissions
I like the looks of the MKIV and MKV but when you get right down to it Hondas have better gear boxes and end up better for racing
I dont know how far you want to mod but I would consider a dedicated mod car that you can play with and keep your nice coupe as a daily.
Youll have more fun, learn more and go faster for less money if you build a rolling shell than you will if you convert that DD into something worth racing
I would stay away from Mark V Rabbits if you want to race unless you have $$$ for transmissions/axles
The 2.5 isnt bad....they just released a cam/header package thats pretty impressive...but youll go faster an an EG/EK/CRX with a DOHC swap...like an F20b or H22 H2B setup
If your "mods" are I/H/E and wheels/springs....either one is fine...the rabbits dumped on 15's look great in white and I am a sucker for a hatch

I owned a VW, and the interior is hard, and doesn't seem to last as long has a Honda does. I've worked on countless VWs, and can say that the Civic is the way to go for longevity...as long as YOU-YOURSELF don't F it up with stupid mods.
