i called the cops, dispatcher said it would be "forwarded to the theft detectives"...so who knows it probably wont go anywhere. a smart detective would call him, meet up, check it out, arrest him.

That's weird! Give it a minute and see if the detectives say anything. If not, you found and awesome score! Not out of the realm of possibility. If they find out it's stolen, then they'll get him I'm sure.
I would go and check it out and get the VIN. Run a VIN check to see its clean, if not go to PD and tell him some guy is trying to sell you some stolen property.
Or maybe he's waiting for someone to come by and rob him.

I see this on craigslist alot. It is most likely that he owes money on the car and they are about to repo it so he is selling it without the title or he will part it out for dirt cheap.
this happened to me too they tried to sale me a 2001 monte carlo ss for 500!!..but he didnt finish paying it and want me to part it out didnt want me to keep it..i was like never mind!!!
i havent heard anything yet, i flagged his posting. i gave the cops my work number unfortunately so i have to wait until tomorrow to see if they left me a message.
i hope they followed up with this and didnt just let it go....by telling me "dont try and register it" is reason enough to think its stolen.

There are a couple of scenarios that can play out in this case, but I would have to say that it most definently sounds stolen. Good lookin out on the thread though, we should really have more like this, afterall the highest rated stolen vehicle in america is in fact the civic. BTW, in purchasing a stolen vehicle you are also charged with the the purchase and posession of stolen goods. so don't buy it.
