Default Serious wiring issues

Alright so I have some super bad wiring problems. I have a 93 cx canadian model. There a small tube of body hardener stuffed between the side of the fuse box and the body under the hood. I took it out today because it looks like crap and my car wouldn't start. I put it back in and my car started right up. At idle my car revs up to 1500 then drops to 1000 and back up and it keeps doing it. Except sometimes. Sometimes it'll idle fine but when I flip the fan off because my fans on a switch which isn't wired right it'll start the idle or if I drive with my fan and lights on again the lights are all messed up, it'll idle fine but when I turn one or the other off it'll start it's up and down idle. I'm thinking this is electrical. I'm thinking about replace the alternator but I don't want to if it's going to mess the new one up or if the one in there now is fine. Any ideas on the tube stuffed in between the fuse box and body? Thanks

mike
